FYI: At the close of the hearing Kenndy requested that his
December 22nd letter to Specter which was responded to by Specter's staff, and that his (Kennedy) staff returned a response, and that both of those letters be made a part of the record.

2. Specter ended up looking like an ass.
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 01:23 PM by LibDemAlways
Trying to pretend he may not have received the letter when he knew damn well he did just made him look like he's hiding something. He reminded me of a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar who becomes belligerant about it. The repukes know what's in that CAP file, but they sure as hell don't want to share it with the rest of us.

8. It's far from being over...
I think we'll see, as Ed Schultz just said, a filibuster. The Dem Senators are not backing down on anything. 2006 is staring off GREAT!

I hope they filibuster. I think they're going pretty good okay. Only Biden I've been disappointed in. The other democrats are doing pretty good. Feinstien's been okay. She could do better.

13. I know what you're saying about Biden
He has a strange way of getting his point across, with his silly smiling and laughing. Feinstien is my Senator and becomming more and more of a disappointment to me. She's up for re-election this year and if there's someone else that I like in the primaries I'll probably go with them. We have to call our Senators and insist ona a filibuster if it gets out of committee.

3. Nice trap set by Kennedy.
At the break, Kennedy stated that his request that was sent in December was answered by Specters staff who stated that Specter had reviewed the request and denied it.

Specter will now have to admit that
1. he lied about not getting the letter.
2. his staff lied about Specter reviewing Kennedy's request and choosing to deny it.

5. Kennedy also responded to the denial
and said it was a mistake not to request the docs.

and that i believe is the crux of the exchange we saw in the hearings. Specter knows he should have made the request but is covering up for Borkalito, and Kennedy is exposing their coverup.

4. Some Specter staff member will take the blame for this public embarassment
of Arlen - whether rightly or wrongly. I greatly look forward to seeing the CAP records. How long did Alito maintain his membership? How long did he receive all these publications he denies knowledge of? Were they sent to his home or his office? Maybe the schmuck even communicated with CAP and there are copies of his letters?

6. It's very apparent from the last few paragraphs...
... of that letter:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/1/11/124323/507

that Kennedy's staff has been digging, and it sure sounds like they found someone from Princeton who knew Alito's views then very well. Specter could have issued a subpoena and wouldn't. Somebody just plain doesn't want the public to know anything about this character.

9. Please expound on what exactly CAP stood for and what is Alito's views
on record regarding CAP. From what little I know about CAP it was
founded as a support group for ROTC on campus and amongst its
agenda was elimination of racial and sex based quota's for admission
to the university. Please correct me if I am wrong.

12. I just called Specter's office and expressed my outrage that
these records were not being made public, right after I let them know I am one of his constituents.

Any other fellow PA DU'ers please call and let Specter know that you want to see these records.

I am sick of how Specter has caved in time and time again to the Bush administrations, and I still have vivid memories of his appalling treatment of Anita Hill. Poppy Bush gave us Clarence Thomas with help from Specter, and now I guess Specter's going to help the idiot son get Alito.

opportunity to get rid of Specter in 04? Why wasn't he removed then? As I recall, Kerry carried the state. Were people so dumb that they voted Kerry for Pres. and then basically negated that vote by voting for Specter's re-election? I often hear him described as a "moderate" but have seen precious little evidence.

15. Congressman Joe Hoeffel ran against Specter
We worked for both Kerry and Hoeffel as a joint campaign effort across the state, but unfortunately Hoeffel had very little name recognition among the voters, especially in the western half of the state. Specter had a lot more money and ran some nasty negative ads against Hoeffel.

Specter has taken a swing to the right with Bush because he apparently made some type of deal with Bush when he was being challenged in the primary by a real nut case named Toomey. I think many voters have not noticed that their once "moderate" Senator Specter has been Bush's best buddy as of late.
