KOS: Bush to criminalize protesters under Patriot Act as "disruptors"

Bush wants to create the new criminal of "disruptor" who can be jailed for the crime of "disruptive behavior." A "little-noticed provision" in the latest version of the Patriot Act will empower Secret Service to charge protesters with a new crime of "disrupting major events including political conventions and the Olympics." Secret Service would also be empowered to charge persons with "breaching security" and to charge for "entering a restricted area" which is "where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting." In short, be sure to stay in those wired, fenced containments or free speech zones.

* Patriot Daily News Clearinghouse's diary :: ::
*

Who is the "disruptor"? Bush Team history tells us the disruptor is an American citizen with the audacity to attend Bush events wearing a T-shirt that criticizes Bush; or a member of civil rights, environmental, anti-war or counter-recruiting groups who protest Bush policies; or a person who invades Bush's bubble by criticizing his policies. A disruptor is also a person who interferes in someone else's activity, such as interrupting Bush when he is speaking at a press conference or during an interview.

What are the parameters of the crime of "disruptive behavior"? The dictionary defines "disruptive" as "characterized by unrest or disorder or insubordination." The American Medical Association defines disruptive behavior as a "style of interaction" with people that interferes with patient care, and can include behavior such as "foul language; rude, loud or offensive comments; and intimidation of patients and family members."

What are the rules of engagement for "disruptors"? Some Bush Team history of their treatment of disruptors provide some clues on how this administration will treat disruptors in the future.

Wondering how the housing costs compare from down here? Hmmm...

Isn't this just sad. Americans talking about leaving our country. Neighbors, and many folks I've met, literal strangers in store lines all saying the same damn thing.

Read over 200 comments tonight alone on this very issue: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/1/11/212726/954

No wonder Specter shot down Kennedy & Durbin today during the Alito questioning. We have no power. Are all Democrats enemies now? Sure seems like it.
Got news for them. Plenty of Republican voters are well past fed-up with them, as well.

Gawd... :banghead:

In the old days, the soviets called them 'wreckers.'

The nazis called them 'degenerates.'

Now in Amerika, they are 'disruptors.'

32. you say you want a revolution??
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right

You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
Ah

ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...

You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
all right, all right, all right
all right, all right, all right

There comes a time when that's "the last straw".

I hope the day of reckoning comes soon.

I now can thoroughly understand why the French and Russians did what they did during their revolutions.

It involved job postings on Careerbuilder.com whereby they were hiring Secret Service employees nationwide...or at least the post said nationwide. I wondered at the time if they were building the SS workforce for some particular "reason".
Oh, I don't know if that means that the job locations are actually in DC or at locations thruout the US.

59. cold weather protests
<<cold-weather protests don't draw enough people>>

Baloney!
The millions and millions of people around the world who showed up for the Feb 15, 2003 anti-war protests would suggest otherrwise.

I was at the one in NYC. Even though the airspace above the city was closed thus preventing any good aeriel photos to show the throngs.
made it easier to lie with implausibly low figures .

I *know* there were more than a million people there:

The Macy's Day Parade and Times Square New years Rockin' Eve reportedly draw a couple of million (even if those numbers are exaggerated a bit).
Most NYers have a general idea of the size and scope of those events; the size of crowd, how many streets and blocks are taken up, right?
Well neither of those events covered nearly as much area as the Feb 15th demonstration.
It was farkin' freezing that day, btw. Freezing but glorious.

I'm betting they would.

Fascism increasingly unveiled. Those arrested could lose all rights and be labeled as terrorists. Rule by fear, intimidation, and example-making, with removal of those who most defiantly dare to speak up.

51. Good, the someone arrest Fred Phelps and his ilk for the crap they do
Because we have legally held protests in DC or NYC and you can guarentee the Fred Phelps idiots will show up with their signs of hate. They are infiltrating OUR legally setup protest so therefore they should all be jailed!!

53. I wonder about those Republican Congressional Aide Thugs,
that were flown in to Florida just to stop the election workers from doing their duty to count the votes, resulting in the coup of 2000 putting Bush in to power, would they be classified as disruptors?

56. It seems we have no choice but to challenge them in the streets..
We should refuse to be herded into "free-speech" zones. We should be willing to go to jail if necessary for civil disobedience. The time has come. This is the last straw of this fascist government. If we don't do it, no one else will. That is our decision.

57. No choice
If It comes to it we may be heading to a second Civil War. The day may come when violence may be
the only way to fight. Let's hope It doesn't come to It.

74. No doubt it won't apply to the right wing redneck goons
who tried to get into the John Kerry event here in Orlando last year.

This "disruption" will not hold up in court as Constitutional for it is a clear violation of both freedom of speech and the right to assemble and peaceably redress the government for grievances as guaranteed in the First Amendment.

75. Only Egotistical Maniacs under the sway of Delusion would ALLOW THIS
The Pub Party is Guilty of supporting this madman and they should be made aware of dire consequences our Nation faces in the Facist Mode they so blindly embrace...wittingly or not.....
