Let's not forget that Bush wanted to make Alito nomination a diversion... |
|
from all the present scandals and questions about illegality. It was reported a few days ago that was what they wanted. They wanted a knock-down fight over this nomination. Other stories were in the headlines at that time...

10. That is the power of the presidency |

He gets to pick a fight pretty much anytime he wants it and therefore can change the news.

from Bush's perspective, it might save his ass. And that is all that is important to him. I think that is the political calculation. There is no win for the Democrats or the American people - only Bush.

Sacrifice the GOP Senate for a 3 day diversion? Nuclear option will |
|
be very bad for GOPers in the Senate. It will make them look like Newt before his fall in 1998. I am not sure that they have the balls to do it right now. The GOP Senate might tell Bush "Screw you, we are not going to fall on our swords to give you a three day diversion, send us a candidate that we can approve you dipshit."
