Tweety: "Maybe breaking the law is part of the president's job!?" |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 07:36 PM by Sparkly
Tweety just said that if he'd been president on 9/11, and was told it's possible to "mine data" by eavesdropping on Americans according to specific words they spoke -- without a warrant -- he'd do it.
His guest said, "You'd be breaking the law."
Tweety replied, "Yeah, well maybe that's part of the job."
:wtf:

Let's say Monica Lewinski was actually a member of Al Qaeda, but Clinton seduced her to get information about AQ's operations. Would it have been OK for him to get extramarital BJs from Monica under those circumstances?

|
And he had Ed Meece on after, and let him say some outrageous things to which he didn't agree. He does good when he gives these guys enough rope to hang themselves.
I don't think he meant that a president should break the law. He just wants to get the idea out there.

The Senate investigations will show General Georgie went after far more folks than just a few Al Qaeda suspects.
We're in the silly season here. It's when Tweety gets to open his mouth big and wide and we get to see up into his empty skull.

Yo Twitty,
Here's the 2nd-grader low-down on American Government.
Congress is responsible for passing laws. Ideally, these laws conform to the principles of the US Constitution (alas, a rarity these days, with NSA spying and wars on drugs and other-bogeymen-of-the-moment).
The executive branch is responsible for UPHOLDING and ENFORCING laws, and PROTECTING the US Constitution (it's getting hard to recall a time when the executive actually DID that, but I digress).
The judiciary must interpret the laws passed by Congress and the conduct of the executive branch. When such laws and conduct conflict with Constitutional principles, judges CAN (i.e.- must) rule against such.

Orwell would be SO proud that all his paranoid fantasies have come to life. I keep wondering, though, what he would say if he knew that his novel had become the playbook for captialist plutocrat dicatators instead of godless communists?

26. if there was a HOSTILE overtake of the US... |
|
I am sure that France (and other European countries) would oppose it, but not militarily as long they are not threatened. It's always very difficult to OFFICIALLY take sides when it's an internal affair. France didn't take sides in the secession war (even if the political situation was different at that time).
But I can imagine that for example refugees and political opponents in exile would be granted asylum.

21. The US's defining principle is rule of law over rule of man. |
|
The very real idea that human judgement is flawed and can be distorted, so while it is obvious and necessary, it must be tempered with established limitations. That whenever human judgement suggests something, it must be measured against the very limits of decency and freedom that we have already agreed upon. The law is there, in essence, to protect us from ourselves. It's actually a concept I'd expect most Christians to understand (that we are all flawed in some way, and thus have a higher order of rules to which we must adhere even against our own desires and vices). . . not that there are any real Christians in the NeoConservative movement.
If Chris Mathews can't understand that, then maybe his understanding of American government is too vague and misconstrued to hold the job he currently does.

36. I stopped watching all of them after Wolf's blatant lies last week |
|
It IS self abuse, I finally decided.
Chris Matthews is DUMB. I began to realize that a few months ago!! He's just not very bright, and his smarmy, stupid, adoration of a man who is even more dumb than he is, is pretty sick to watch. I decided that it was masachistic to continue to watch these depressing, lying, psychophants and I'm saving $52 a month. I haven't even missed them. It's like getting rid of a bad sore.
I truly do recommend it, you will be way healthier and able to spend more time informing the indoctrinated.
Meantime, someone upthread asked 'what are we going to do about them'. Boycott their advertisers, and cancel your TV subscriptions. Pool the money saved, and buy our own networks. If we organized across the country, we could starve them out of existence. We just have to have the will to do it.
How much more evidence do we need, that there is NO free press anymore. All the good guys are gone. Only the ignorant propagandists are left. They are losing viwers, and at most, they only reach under a million people each night. Boards like this, collectively, reach way more and are growing each day as more and more people go online to get news.
The media is dead.
