Spying on Americans
Do you ever get the feeling that the spying on americans leak was just to get some focus about how the US would respond to it?

Now we see that (through incredibly biased polls) that 50% think its fine,
& they have proven they can get away with it
and see no reason to stop

they wont, and that will be that?

1. Well, as I heard Ed Meese say today -
The President is an honest man with a great deal of integrity. He was forthcoming to the American people about the NSA spy program has no reason to hide anything. What he's doing is within his Presidential power.

Paraphrased, but you get the idea.

So in answer to your questions, I'd have to say yes, and yes.

3. Basically, yes
They may scale back a bit spying on individuals who clearly have no connection to suspected terrorists, peace groups, political activists, etc... but only until they've put out the fire on the issue. Once domestic spying becomes a non-issue they'll start up again, listening to anyone anytime for any reason or no reason, just because they can.

6. Does DU have enough members to take this board out of the public realm
and make it so that only members can read it? If it becomes for members only, then the NSA might make a bigger effort to read the messages here and maybe even learn something.

4. Well, we are assuming that the Media Industrial Complex is being honest
about the 50%.

I personally think its a total lie.

5. I dont think its a lie....
they asked do you think it is okay for the US to spy on americans who are talking to Al Queda, or something as completely misleading as that.

I for one would have to answer, if I wasn't so damned tinfoil hatted, "yes, spy on them, they are bad."

if they ask is it okay for * to spy on americans, that is a totally different question, but they never did.
