1. I don't know, I'd
like to think differently, but maybe it's because he is going to be confirmed, and there is nothing that the Dem "leadership" will do about it??

2. Because Very Wealthy Powerful People Have a Vested
interest in (E)lito's confirmation. With his possible confirmation corporation will do a s they please with no recourse for the average citizen.

One nation controlled by the media.

7. My children love Green Day--and I like them as well. Has *
declared them "annoying" to Tony Blair, and will they be cast as terrorists?

What a fucked up 'whoreld' we are becoming.

4. I've not seen anything to lead me to believe otherwise...
So why should articles not report what's happening? As of yet, the chance of a filibuster seems incredibly remote, and we certainly don't have the votes if it comes to an up-or-down vote. So, to say he should be nominated without a problem doesn't seem like much of a stretch, does it?

15. Republicans have been working for this day for thirty years....
Do you really believe they haven't tried to influence the press? We already have PROOF that people were actually PAID to write columns favorable to the administration. The media is owned by huge corporations, headed almost completely by conservative Republicans, but you don't see anything fishy here?

16. That's not what I said...
I'm aware that journalists have been paid off, of course. And I'm aware that the lion's share of modern media is owned by large corporations.

At the same time, I'm also aware that plans for filibuster seem dim at this point, and that if it comes to a vote, we certianly don't have the votes to stop Alito.

IN this case, papers are reporting what is the actual case -- Alito seems quite likely to be confirmed. If newspapers reported that it WASN'T likely that Alito would be confirmed, they wouldn't be reporting the truth.

17. The question is;
Why is the major media so willing to speculate at this point? And why so joyfully?

18. I hardly think "joyfully" is the right word for this...
Outside of FOX news, the only speculation I've seen has been fairly sober. CNN's lengthy analysis certainly doesn't strike me as "high-fiving" over this:

http://edition.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/13/alito/

Of course, the Associated Press report certainly seemed to side with the GOP:

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060113/NEWS07/601130303/1009

So you may have something there.

But as to speculation in general, isn't this the sort of "horse-race" analysis we've come to expect from the mainstream media? They're covering the Alito hearing in much the same way they cover political races -- it's a pretty sad state of affairs, granted, but I don't see how this is any different than any other story that most of the media has mismanaged over the past decade or so.

9. For one thing stop listening to MSM
and for another call write bug every congress critter and turn up the heat. Stop surrendering before the first bullets been fired. For way to long We The People have sat back and let others decide for us how things should be run then bitch about things after. Thats what the rethugs enjoy, instead of We The People doing anything we let lobbyists take over our job of deciding whats best for us. Take a stand, walk away from the pc and act. Action speaks louder then words or money. Remember we are the fools that vote for these people.

and the republicans are in charge of the senate and have the votes to prevent a dem fillibuster by outlawing it.

13. Corporate Media have completely capitulated.
They all move like a school of fish now, and they don't cover issues, they cover gossip.

DID YOU HEAR WHAT HAPPENED TO MRS. ALITO?! OMG! IT WAS TERRIBLE! SHE CRIED. DEMOCRATS HAVE TO LOSE SINCE SHE CRIED!!

opposition believe that they are overwhelmed to be demoralized further and further. One Party Rule must be the goal--get on board or be ground to dust.:sarcasm:

Apparently, if the Dems didn't get Alito to admit he is actually the ghost of Jeffrey Dahmer, then Alito should be confirmed.:sarcasm:

They'd rather cover a horse race than seriously analyze the nominee, the process, and the behind-the-scenes action.
