We are going to have to take back our country ourselves. |
|
I am not given to defeatist thoughts, however, I am becoming more and more convinced that our party leaders have no plan to take our country back. This is not easy for me to say or feel.
I am not sure what it is that we will have to do, or if there is even anything we can do, but I watch in horror as our country becomes more and more Orwellian each day. I hate feeling so powerless. Being a Texas Democrat doesn't make it any easier.

1. Texas Democrat? Isn't that like the dodo bird or passenger pigeons? |
|
I thought they went extinct a few years ago.
Currently I live in the reddest county in Texas: Tarrant County.
Talk about feeling like the last liberal on earth, I move among the SUVs and fish symbols like a ghost.
Like you, I feel like we have been stripped of any power to effect change. The only responses I get from our senators and representatives are form letters, informing me that my opinions are important, but will be ignored.
It's starting to look like only a revolution will change things. Shudder.

I live in Palo Pinto county, right down the road from you. But I work in Fort Worth, and I agree about the SUVs, fish symbols.

Honestly, I think that the secular NE rules, but that cold weather is a bitch.
And pushing a wheelchair through the snow really sucks.

10. As far as the cold weather goes, you get used to it. The |

wheelchair would certainly be a problem around here in the snowy weather, though.
I guess there is good and bad about all locales.

3. My theory; it is every man for himself, and they see what's coming. |
|

They have much better access to the real information than we have. They're also virtually all rich bastards who've made out quite nicely thanks to BushCo's tax give-aways. They know the damage already done to the economy, the coming meltdown, the empty treasury. And they're simply making sure they'll be on the correct side of the compound walls when the shit comes down.
Think about it. If you hop in a car and the driver turns out to be a terrible, scary-ass jerk who side-swipes parked cars and runs over old ladies, and you call for him to stop but he just keeps laughing maniacally, promising "Don't worry! I know what I'm doing!" you're going to reach the conclusion that, since you're locked in and can't get out, you'd better goddamn well get your affairs in order. Buckle in tightly, wrap yourself in bubble wrap, and wait for the inevitable run-in with a brick wall.
That's all these guys are doing. The country WILL go into the shitter. We ARE turning into a modern-day serfdom, and there is likely to be an actual citizens revolt of some sort, if not outright armed revolution. When the collapse comes, and we're all forced to bring wheelbarrows of cash to the mini market for a loaf of bread, they'll run for cover behind the 10-foot high razor-wire topped mansion walls and wait it out for a few years. They'll be able to. They'll still have all the cash they've given themselves out of the Unites States Treasury.
They're just squirreling it away until the inevitable comes, setting themselves and their families up to survive it.

7. DU members are going to have to become serious Activists |
|
Especially with regard to the Media. The Corporate MSM (especially CNN)is not simply the enemy of the poor and the working class, it is most especially the enemy of the Democratic Party.
I have my issues (as many of us do) with some in the party (particularly the DLC of course) but never have I been more assured that the Corporate MSM is actually the enemy of the Democratic Party as a whole, until this morning.
Many of us DU members have been watching very closely the confirmation hearings of Judge Alito - those of us who have been paying close attention know what the facts are as to the testimony, and the over all nature of the proceedings. So to wake up to a CNN Radio News cast (on my alarm clock radio)announcing two major factual errors, (clear Lies) regarding these proceedings was astounding, as it was stark as to it's right wing allegience.
I intend to create a separate thread on this subject to pick up and elaborate a little bit more on this theme, so i comment here to say that it is critical in my estimation, that DU members become very serious MEDIA activists - in order to "take back the country, take back Congress" and even have a prayer to winning presidential elections any time in the next decade or two.

11. Looks more and more like a staged event |
|
The two-party system only gives the illusion of choice, and is handy for splitting up the country into feuding factions. Meanwhile the plutocracy proceeds to act above any law. The charade is getting harder and harder to maintain. It would not even surprise me to learn that the G8 is in agreement with a military superpower to keep resources open to all.
