terrorists. Why do they do that? Is it an attempt to stifle dissent?
I don't think so. It's a setup. Along with domestic spying, it's all part of the plan. You see, they have to rhetorically label Democrats and other anti-neo-cons as enemies of the state. Once they do that, they are then justified to take every advantage available, including some that are quite illegal, in monitoring their opposition's activities. And with the knowledge that comes from such monitoring comes power.
That is all.

Indeed, if they can say that critics of the Iraq war are aiding TERRORISTS, then of course any critic is fair game for surveillance and "outside-the-law" tactics. Not a big jump for them.
