That's it - my husband might run for Congress
I was going to run against Sweeney in NY's 20th Congressional district, but I was told that they had a candidate who was very viable. Fine. But when I wrote to her, and asked her how she would deal with real issues that affect real people, she never even bothered to answer me back.

So...since my husband is much more personable than I, and much more "sellable" than I, and his history is pretty impressive, I am going to support his run for Congress. Maybe not in '06; but definitely by '08. Impressions, please??

Specs: 45 years old, ex-NYC policeman for 3 years, went into business, NYC fireman for 10 years, disabled by 9/11 clean-up. Was a republican for 20 years, changed parties last year. Had not paid attention until Bush stole his country. Is a very laid back, easy going, pacifist, wants to take care of everyone.

Ideas?

1. why wait? do it this year!!! competition is great and will push the
"...candidate who was very viable." to the limit to define his/her values as a democrat.

competition is the american way, plus it gives your guy a head start for another run in a few years.

You can also mention your viable candidate's lack of response to your inquiry.

15. Use the internet
Set up a website to get money where people can send you checks and things like that (I wouldn't trust the mail to take cash through but would do checks and money order) and you can get money that way. Try to get the attention of Dean and the DNC and see if they can help you or other democratic groups like PDA or the group Dean's brother runs.

2. Sounds like a viable candidate. It won't be easy, though...or fair.
Prepare to have every closet opened...every stone turned. Prepare to have questions where the answers are none of anybody's damn business.

I'm not trying to discourage either you or your husband. Just be aware of the climate inpolitics right now. It's a tough gig.

4. We have a skeleton or two
but so did Clinton (nothing like Clinton,) and he brazened them out. We could survive. John Sweeney, the republican opponent, has had a number of DWIs which he had buried, from what I understand. Plus, we have very photogenic kids, good students, nice normal, good citizens who are all concerned about the direction of our country. I am not afraid. My husband is not afraid. I fear them taking over more than anything they can do to us.

5. I understand your hesitation
I have considered running in the 6th District in Alabama against Spencer Bachus -- he's the guy who called Bill Maher a traitor. But there's that money thing. And running for office isn't exactly compatible with my job -- journalist.

I'm just hoping some other Democrat makes the race. Bachus has run unopposed for too long.

8. Then I wish you both the best of luck.
You seem to have your head on straight. If he does decide to run, I'd love to get a link to his campaign site. "Local" politics aren't local any more...I've supported a few candidates that I didn't have the opportunity to vote for. A lot of people here have done the same.

Even though I didn't win, ikt was one of the greatest experiences of my life. We did get my opponent to quit voting for funding for the School of the America's (SOA) which is why we started the campaign in the first palce. Please get a hold of me at pgtsndr@yahoo.com-Peace-Mike Colier

My guy (see my sig line) is going for it ... again! He was defeated in '04 by Delay/Abramoff money, hopefully, we'll turn it around this time.
