This author was placed on the no fly list...
James Moore is an Emmy-winning former television news correspondent
and the co-author of the bestselling, "Bush's Brain: How Karl Rove Made George
W. Bush Presidential." He has been writing and reporting from Texas for
the past 25 years on the rise of Rove and Bush and has traveled
extensively on every presidential campaign since 1976.

This author was placed on the no fly list.
Two points: there's nothing you or I can do to help him but make this
public, and two- we are all targets here.

James Moore:

"I made it a point to arrive very early at the airport. My reservation
was confirmed before I left home. I went to the electronic kiosk and punched in
my confirmation number to print out my boarding pass and luggage tags.
Another error message appeared, "Please see agent."
I did. She took my Texas driver's license and punched in the relevant
information to her computer system.
"I'm sorry, sir," she said. "There seems to be a problem. You've been
placed on the No Fly Watch List."
"Excuse me?"
"I'm afraid there isn't much more that I can tell you," she explained.
"It's just the list that's maintained by TSA to check for people who might
have terrorist connections."
"You're serious?"

"I'm afraid so, sir. Here's an 800 number in Washington. You need to
call them before I can clear you for the flight."

Exasperated, I dialed the number from my cell, determined to clear up what I
was sure was a clerical error. The woman who answered offered me no
more information than the ticket agent.
"Ma'am, I'd like to know how I got on the No Fly Watch List."
"I'm not really authorized to tell you that, sir," she explained after
taking down my social security and Texas driver's license numbers.

"What can you tell me?"

"All I can tell you is that there is something in your background that
in some way is similar to someone they are looking for."
"Well, let me get this straight then," I said. "Our government is
looking for a guy who may have a mundane Anglo name, who pays tens of
thousands of dollars every year in taxes, has never been arrested or even late on a
credit card payment, is more uninteresting than a Tupperware party, and
cries after the first two notes of the national anthem? We need to
find this guy. He sounds dangerous to me."
"I'm sorry, sir, I've already told you everything I can."
"Oh, wait," I said. "One last thing: this guy they are looking for?
Did he write books critical of the Bush administration, too?"

I have been on the No Fly Watch List for a year. I will never be told
the official reason. No one ever is. You cannot sue to get the information.

Nothing I have done has moved me any closer to getting off the list.

There were 35,000 Americans in that database last year. According to a
European government that screens hundreds of thousands of American travelers
every year, the list they have been given to work from has since grown to 80,000.

4. Among those are:
Several toddlers, three nuns, Mr. Moore, Sen. Kennedy (he's since been removed) and dozens of peace activists, a Canadian, and Cat Stevens.

Really dangerous folks, all of 'em.

5. Michael Moore is on the no fly list???
He can't fly any where?

What does a celebrity do when you can't fly?

If you're on the no-fly list...can you fly your own plane?

Can you fly in your own private jet?

8. Not Michael Moore........
James Moore. And Kennedy pulled some serious strings to get himself off the list. He made it sound like a joke when he was talking about it, but I think it was just more Bushco bullshit......a way of keeping Kennedy in his place.

But when a toddler is stopped because his name is on the no fly list, that's particularly assinine.

12. Well, there is a common thread (except for the toddlers and the nuns,
whose political preferences we don't know) in that most of them appear to dislike the vindictive moron in the White House.

I don't believe a US citizen cannot sue or use the FOIA when their freedom is restricted for no reason. This is an outrage. This is George Bush's 'democracy'?

Okay, there are things that could be done. For one, a boycott of all airlines until this is stopped and everyone on this 'Bush, paranoid enemies list' is told why they are on the list and who put them there.

This has NOTHING to do with terrorism, but it IS terrorism against the American people. It is McCarthyism, fascism and it is a crime against democracy.

What do these people care about more than anything else? Imo, money. That's how to deal with them. I did say this before in another thread. But the only way to defeat them is to take money from them. Stop buying from their corporate friends who advertise on their corporate media. Cancel cable, and stop flying in numbers big enough to bankrupt them.

When the planes are empty and are grounded for lack of business, this will stop. If they were to lose that much money, they would allow Osama to fly, that's how greedy they are.

But, as always there is no real will to defeat them. I have not and will not fly until these thugs are out of office.

That number '80,000'! Isn't that the same number Bush was spying on? And in the first reports of the spy scandal, I remember that many agents had refused to go along with the spying. Even Ashcroft refused to go along with it. Whatever they were up to, it had to be bad for him to refuse to participate. He may be on that list himself, as a result of his 'betrayal'.

And wasn't there another story about this author last week?

Does anyone know if any Republicans have found themselves on the no-fly list? If not, this is definitely a political vendetta and totally illegal.

16. Expanding on the boycott idea
a boycotting bloc of 35,000 people will probably not make a dent in airline policy.

HOWEVER....

finding out which airlines stop the most people from getting on, and publishing a list online could have a greater effect.

20. That is a great idea. How would you go about finding out
that information?

Maybe there should be a website somewhere where people who are victims of this could list the airlines and their political affiliation so that we can see if this is a political enemies list rather than what Bush says it is. So far, almost everyone I have read about was, like Moore, either a Democrat, like Ted Kennedy or someone who was an activist against the war, a Green party member etc. This stinks.

The site should be called 'America's Descent Into Fascism' and on the site, just so peole do not think this is hyperbole, a list of quotes from Michael Ledeen, who has said and written openly that he admires Fascism.

According to him, the only reason Fascism failed the last time was because it wasn't done right. The man is certifiable, yet he was put in charge of foreign policy issues and from what I've read, Bush's policies abroad, are Michael Ledeen's. Bush's own quotes about dictatorship should be on the site also.

19. It's called Fascism. There is no doubt that Moore was placed...
on this list because he is anti-Bush. This kind of shit happend in irate third-world dictatorships. Maybe America has become that?!?

10. Kafka knew what America would become
Someone must have been telling lies about Josef K., he knew he had
done nothing wrong but, one morning, he was arrested. Every day at
eight in the morning he was brought his breakfast by Mrs. Grubach's
cook - Mrs. Grubach was his landlady - but today she didn't come. That
had never happened before.

15. Here's the post
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-moore/branded_b_13272.html

I'm writing my senators and congressman about this. Kind of a joke, considering the people supposedly representing my intersts are John Cornyn, Kaye Bailey Hutchinson and John Culberson, famed Tom DeLay lapdog.

But it's doing something, at least. Start writing, guys-- get the word out about this travesty.
