Taking bets on whether Dems will back Al Gore's speech |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 02:18 PM by quiet.american
As is now widely known, Al Gore is poised to give a bold, direct, no-holds-barred speech in defiance of Bush's move towards a "unitary presidency" on Monday (read: on Bush's move towards a dictatorship).
I find myself wondering if our Democratic leadership will let Gore's speech be heard in a vacuum -- with no "war room" in place to build on points he will raise.
Worse than this, will Gore get the "he doesn't speak for me" treatment from Dems who do the talk show circuit? Will they show support for his words, or mitigate them?

1. I think they will take issue with some comments and say that he is |
|
right on others. That way they can stay in the mushy middle. They'll say that "Al Gore speaks for Al Gore and not the Democratic Party."

After reading your comment, I can just about hear Biden saying, "Look, Al Gore has the right to speak as an individual citizen, as a private citizen, but that doesn't mean he represents the view of the Democratic Party...."

3. The Past Indicates That Gore Will Be Abandoned As Usual |
|
It is more likely than not that democratic leaders will rush out to denounce Gore while the progressive bloggers and party rank-and-file will rejoice at Gore's speech only to fall silent in due time as a result of no vocal and public support from the party's leadership.

4. 98% of them won't get to hear it. |
|
CNN will pick out a gaffe or a line that sounds mean-spirited to play in an infinite loop to the sheeple, while the DU hardcore will give it it resounding "HUZZAHS!", forgetting that we live/post in a vacuum, far from the reality of middle-American politics.

9. What can we do to change this dynamic? |
|
I've promised myself that whatever action or steps Al Gore urges citizens to take (should he do so), I'll do it a hundred percent.
And I will also write to or call whatever Dem "pooh-poohs" his speech.

8. They won't. Dems don't believe in leadership. All chiefs and no |
|
indians. That's our problem. Buncha jerks (meaning those who go out of their way to put the other guy down like Lieberman and Biden).

10. You know, I often wonder why the "No-mentums" are the face of our party |
|
I'm actually tending to think that Dean, Pelosi, Boxer and Kennedy will show support (in some cases, cautious support) for Gore's remarks.
But, it will be Biden and some other "no-mentum" doing the talk show rounds.

Al will be defending our Constitution, the same piece of $%*@)! paper Bush wants to trash. There is no mushy middle ground here, the stakes have never been more clear. The only question is whether the corpwhorate owned MSM will redeem themselves with some honest substantive coverage of this issue without the bullshit spinning, or will they revert to their corpwhorate owned fascist inspired worship of Bush and slandering and or ignoring of Al? If they choose the latter, I have no doubt they will have guaranteed themselves the fate of dinosaurs and a permanent hot spot in history hell.
P.S. I have noticed that C-Span will be covering Al's speech at 12:00pm EST Monday and they are going to telecast a Bush speech at 3:00pm EST that same day.

13. If ALL Democrats can't come together... |
|
on this issue, the Party is doomed to fail in '06 & '08. People are saying there will be no filibuster of Alito.... how many Dems do you think want to filibuster him, but knowing they don't have full support of the rest of the Party, they feel raising the issue would be much akin to throwing spears at airplanes.. a valiant, yet futile effort. Without the whole Party's backing, many just don't do some of the things they need to do because they see it as pointless. I'm no quitter and I never give up, but I honestly and truly fear that we are headed towards a Dictatorship if the Democratic Party cannot unite for one cause to save our country!!! It is imperative that we unite for this cause. Don't abandon the Party, let's just get rid of the ones who want to keep us divided.
:hippie: PEACE!! It's not just for hippies anymore!:hippie:
