What's the political temperature in **your** town?

I know its winter, but what's the political temperature where you live? Is it tending upwards toward Democrat? Staying the same? Or heading downward toward Republican.

Obviously this isn't in any way scientific. Just an informal survey of how we see things in our own little shperes.

Staying about the same; downtown/university areas, and most of the suburbs are still democratic. Still a few rich suburbs that trend slightly republican

I am a vendor for a large Corporation that just got bought, and the "Business Mngr" of the center was a BIG Bush/RW supporter in 04

We found out last Friday (the 13th LOL) that the new owners were closing our center and firing over 700 people from top management down, including putting us out of biz.

The BizMangr guy came by and was just raking on the short sightedness of the corporations and how dirty the Republican party has turned out to be.

4. My liberal town is more angry than ever.

We went about 70% for Kerry so it's no surprise. The few Bush bumperstickers left are evaporating fast. I've lived here or nearby all my life, and I've never seen so much anger. Angry anger. I feel another huge protest march coming soon.

5. It's winter?

63 degrees right now and it has been like this most of the winter, 40's 50's and 60's....oh sorry.

I have no idea what it is like here. Mostly nobody is talking much about it. I sure don't hear a lot of positive stuff like I used to about Bush** and very rarely do I see Bush** bumperstickers. I have a hunch though that people are not happy about the spying. That kind of thing could end him here.

About that weather? We are picking big, swollen ticks off of our dogs in January in Kansas. Something is very different about this winter. I saw a fly yesterday and little gnats and there are buds on some of the trees.

I have a friend of mine who has been a republican all of his life, but voted for Gore and Kerry. He changed his registration to Demmocrat this past year. The reason was, and I quote," I'm tired of those lying motherf...s" So now, he's my real good friend.

What I see is that the Repugs are very quiet, tight lipped- like they feel guilty about the mess * Co. has caused.

Two of my very lovely elderly Repug uncles- fine upstanding, do-the-right-thing types, have said they are disgusted with Bush. One said (re: this admin.), "Trouble is you can't believe anything that comes out of their mouths." They are both in their mid-eighties.

I know "People's Republic of Sarasota" is one thing you'll never hear; "Geezer's Republic" is probably not too far-fetched, though.

...if I cite Arcata, CA as "my town." I actually live in nearby Blue Lake, which is very tiny and rural, but I work in Arcata and spend most of my time there. Blue Lake hardly has a political temperature at all, but there are certainly lots of liberals here. On balance, northern Humboldt County is quite liberal.

16. Seattle's pretty heavily blue to begin with.

It can be pretty funny--there are flyers for impeachment on light-poles and in coffee-shop windows. Seeing a * bumpersticker is an oddity, enough so that we (my dh & I) point and laugh. There was even an article a few months back about how alienated republicans feel when they move here.

But now? I think people are even more hostile to the administration, but that may just be a function of how much rain we've had lately. Lots of us are on edge about things in general.

Austin continues to fight the good fight. I used to mentally note how many more Kerry-Edwards bumperstickers there were than * stickers but now they've both worn off ('cept mine, I've got Impeach and Kerry stickers on my car).

Traveling anywhere outside of Austin, even to the next county, is a rude awakening that the freepers are out there, determined not to "Keep Austin Wierd."

The really intriguing thing is the way we've been treating each other. The GOPers are starting to go underground, look ashamed when *'s name is mentioned, really, really avoid mentioning their affiliations in public. We Blue Kids are just God. Damned. I live in South Jersey (Ocean County). We recently reelected our Dem mayor (who's been in office since 1993), but out of the 3 council seats up in the last election, only 1 went to a Dem, making her the only Dem left on the 7 member council (and to think that 5 years ago, we only had 1 Republican on the council). My town and county went heavily for Bush, and I still see one too many W'04 stickers (or Wastikas). My all-GOP county Board of Freeholders (that's what we call our county legislature here in NJ) was recently in hot water for refusing to grant a county employee dying of cancer's life partner her pension and medical benefits after she dies. If this woman was in a heterosexual relationship (or if we had a Dem Board of Freeholders), there would be no problem, but since the words Republican and homophobe are interchangeable, this poor woman's partner is going to be in dire straits after she passes away.
