McCain. Iran. Gas Prices. Mix Well And Ignite
Sorry, fellows, I don't have a link or anything yet (maybe one of you can help out there), but I saw McCain on the idiot box Sunday night* telling the interviewer that skyrocketing gas prices are something America will have to live with, if Bush decides to nuke Iran over...um, nukes.

This is going to be interesting to watch.

Yeah, yeah, everybody wuvs John McCain. So long as it's comfortable. He lunges against the chain once in a while, but he still toes the party line and sleeps at his masters' feet. Good dog.

But one key reason The War Against Terror (TWAT) and its little subchapter in Baghdad is allowed to continue is the simple fact that--outside of a few thousand families of servicepeople killed or maimed**--no one in the US has had to sacrifice one damned thing***.

Little John just ran out into the middle of the highway, looked into the oncoming high beams, and screamed, "THIS IS GOING TO HIT YOU IN THE WALLET!!"

And everyone knows he's the sort of guy who never backs down, not even when he says something mindboggling stupid--whether it's racial slurs or crass jokes about the President's daughter. And now he's just telling the truth: Bush's policies, left unchecked, will burn everyone eventually.

Mmmm.

I smells me some toast.

When the wallets start gettin' hit, will anyone wuv John McCain anymore?

*Just before Mike Wallace's "some say" interview of John Murtha on "60 Minutes"--you know: "some say you're wrong...some say you're a crazy poo-poo doodie head...some say you eat babies..." Go on and defend Mike on this if you like, but it might look less good to you when Jon Stewart's using it every other day to depict Murtha as a dribbling psycho (you know, the way he does Howard Dean)...

**I'm fairly certain you've seen more TV "news" coverage of Iraqi children getting prosthetic limbs than US soldiers. Wow, the US loves and supports its men and women in uniform.

***Okay, yes, we're giving up our civil rights. It should be pretty clear by now that only about 975 or so Americans actually give a damn about that. Better put some in a bottle and put the bottle in the freezer, they're gonna get scarce. What I meant was, no one has had to give up their beer money or their XBoxes or any of the things they REALLY value.

1. The current price of oil reflects fear concerning Iran attack
We are already paying for the drumbeat of war against Iran. Stiglitz is one of the only economists who figured in the inhibition of investment, opportunity costs, and lifetime costs of war in Iraq. The costs of war in Iran have already begun at the gas pump.

2. How could you even think McCain would think different?
He is trained to think that power will fix things. Father did and so did his grandfather. So said his education. One good reason that our founders wanted war powers in the hands of people not in the military but in the hands of the people who were nearest to the voters. I think John Adams had some thing to say on this power. Guess I will have to look it up some day as I have been out of high school for 50 plus years.

4. Oil over a $100 a barrel if Iran gets attacked, IMHO. That would make gas
prices around four dollars and up. Go ahead and attack you IDIOT repukes and watch the Democrats win in a landslide.
