What happened to Bob Barr? He was going to intro Gore |
|
I just got back from Gore's speech in DC.
Former Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA) was supposed to introduce Gore to show that there is bipartisan concern over the B*sh Misadministration's abuses of the Constitution.
But Barr never showed up. I was up high in a balcony close to the stage, and I could see the event organizers buzzing backstage trying to find out what had happened to him.
After the woman from the Constitution Society did her intro, Barr was supposed to speak, but she and Gore just sat there and waited while aides ran back and forth with messages for them. Then another event organizer got up from his seat, leaped onto the stage and spoke briefly before turning the microphone over to Gore.
Gore commented that somehow the phone link to Barr had been broken, then lit into his amazing speech.
SO WHERE IS BARR? Was he "detained" by the White House? Was he called on the carpet by the RNC? Is he undergoing rendition to some secret prison cell in the Sahara Desert?
I'd like to think that such fears are preposterous, but in these times, you never know what laws are going to be broken next.

1. From the audio, I think there was a technical glitch. |
|
It seems he was going to speak via remote, and it didn't work.

8. That is what I heard, plus Gore mentioned that Barr's video connection |
|
was working when they went out to start the introductions but went down during it and they couldn't get it back up.
The lady speaking should have said so because it did seem weird - like he just didn't show up. It seemed like they were waiting for him to run into the room.

An Aunt & I now lament not going and weathering the cold & drive.
Gore was great - an historical moment I hope does not go away anytime soon.

10. I live in Rockville, MD so it was almost too easy for me |
|
Just drove to the Metro parking lot, met a friend from church, and rode the Metro into town, less than 45 minutes. Walked from I Street to D Street, showed our tickets and IDs, and went right in.
I don't know if I would have gone if it had required more effort. But having been there, I am glad I went. The guy was flat-out amazing. He blew us away with his righteous rage at the dismantling of the Constitution.

14. You're making me feel guilty - as hell! |
|
I wanted to go, so badly but I honestly have no one to attend these events with. But you can betcha I'm so ready to hop Amtrak and do it alone.
Al Gore just gave me hope, when there was none and courage to stand-up for whats right. Still... it would be nice if I knew some "one" I could trust, say from the DU gang was on the line or at a site awaiting... someday maybe I hope, before it's too damn late.

Sinerely, I mean that.
If you can think of it, PM me as well next time an event is going on up there.
I would love to go. Knowing there would be someone waiting makes all the difference in the world.
