Here's my letter to my Senator...
PLEASE, if you haven't sent a letter, send one right away!

Hello Senator,

I am AGAIN writing to you to ask you, beg you, to FILIBUSTER Alito!!!!!

I'm going to be honest with you, right now I am very close to walking away from the Democratic Party forever. I was born a Democrat. Everyone in my family is a Democrat. I have given money to Democrats and worked hard for several candidates.
But right now I am FED UP with the Democratic leaders, mostly the Senators in this country. The ONLY thing keeping me a Democrat right now is the speech Al Gore gave on Monday. If every Democratic Senator and Congressman had the guts that Al Gore had in that speech, we wouldn't be in such terrible shape in this country. Many of my family members, friends, and myself are seriously thinking of changing parties. So, I want to give you fair warning...If you vote for Alito, and if other Democratic Senators vote for him, you are going to further run our party into the ground. Not only that, but you will be accepting the fact that Bush and his whole cabal are running this country into the ground, running over our Constitution, committing crimes day after day, and changing this great nation for the worst forever!!! If you love our country, and I KNOW you do, you MUST, simply MUST NOT VOTE FOR ALITO. In fact he MUST be FILIBUSTERED! Even if that means the Republicans are going to use the 'nuclear option' on us. I DARE THEM! AND SO SHOULD YOU! Bushes ratings are already in the toilet, so I DARE THEM TO USE THE NUCLEAR OPTION!!!

After all, If you and our other Democratic Senators continue to vote with the Republicans, then WHY OH WHY ARE YOU ANY GOOD TO US? If you are going to support the corrupt Republicans, and NOT stand up to them, then we might as well become Republicans too!!! But I will NEVER become a Republican. I would rather switch to the Green Party or the Independents.

Also, JUST BECAUSE ALITO IS QUALIFIED TO BE ON THE BENCH DOES NOT MEAN THAT HE SHOULD. We ALL know he lied last week. We ALL know he is STILL hiding a lot about his personal views. And, we ALL know that he will LET Bush continue to break the law, spying on innocent Americans, and allow him to change this country for the worst! Alito thinks it is fine for Bush to continue to torture, and fine to overwrite laws that he refuses to veto, instead inserting language that makes the law null and void. HE IS NOT A KING!!! And you are NOT WORKING FOR HIM. You are working for the American people and should ALWAYS vote for or NOT vote for what is the BEST THING FOR THIS COUNTRY!

I know this letter is quite firm and angry. Well, dammit, it's about time EVERY American became ANGRY!!! OUR COUNTRY IS BEING HIJACKED AND IF YOU VOTE FOR ALITO YOU WILL BE AN ACCOMPLICE!!!

I implore you to do the right thing. FILIBUSTER ALITO. However, IF you feel you cannot convince other Senators to FILIBUSTER Alito, then YOU, PERSONALLY, MUST NOT VOTE FOR HIM!!! You are this state's only Democratic Senator. Please do the right thing. The Democratic Party is counting on YOU!

Respectfully,

2. My letter to Sen. Feinstein (variations to Reid and Boxer)

January 16, 2006

Senator Dianne Feinstein
United States Senate
Washington, DC

Senator Feinstein,

For the last five years, in the face of historic over-reaching by the far right that has not only undermined our democracy, our reputation in the world, and our middle class, but with its threats to bomb Iran is actually renewing the threat of a world war, the Democrats have stood up as a group to oppose them precious few times.

Many times the party actively supported Bush's lies as they did with the Iraq War Resolution, based on the threat that if another nation gets a handful of nuclear weapons they will use them on us even though they would know that we have thousands, could incinerate their whole country, and still have enough to do the same to every other country on earth. Our policy in Iraq is clearly based on concerns that our Congress and President havenot seen fit to share with the public.

On the rare occasions when Democrats grudgingly admit that Bush is doing something disastrous, immoral, and illegal, they say that they must skip this fight to "keep their powder dry" to fight another day.

It is hard to think of days when we needed you to fight that were more important than January 6, 2004 when Barbara Boxer stood up to protest the vote rigging and voter intimidation that led to Bush's victory in the 2004 election, and neither you nor any of your Senate colleagues joined her and the black congressional caucus. Most Democrats would not even fight for our democracy.

Now we have seen a new abuse that President Bush has not even bothered to lie about--he openly admits that he wiretapped American citizens without warrants even though the FISA law allowed him to start taps and get the warrant up to 72 hours later. In the midst of this abuse being revealed, he nominates someone to the Supreme Court who believes he has the right to such unrestrained power.

Judge Alito is clearly a kindred spirit of John Yoo and Alberto Gonzalez who laid out the legal justification for Bush's torture policy that put the White House on record in favor of war crimes.

The Supreme Court already had a conservative majority, and Bush v. Gore showed their willingness to undermine our democracy for nakedly partisan purposes. However, it is possible to imagine power grabs that are so brutal, thuggish, and nakedly anti-democratic that Sandra Day O'Connor would not approve.

Samuel Alito is not Sandra Day O'Connor.

Senator Feinstein, while you have fairly consistently stood up for abortion, gays, and other cultural issues, your statement that you will not support a filibuster against Samuel Alito shows that on the issues that matter most, those of war and peace, trade and jobs, you ignore your constituents and side with corporate America.

When the Bush and GOP drive for a one party state and world empire is over, history will not look kindly on those Democrats who remained silent and enabled him.

Our democracy is at stake and we are still waiting for Democrats as a whole to fight for it.
