Lobbyists alleady are not allowed to pay for trips. Abramoff funneled money into nonprofit organizations who paid for these trips. This must be stopped for both parties. Will the Dems take this opportunity to advance real lobby and campaign finance reform?

That's how Republicans fight corruption.

8. Why do they bother?
Their criminal, unethical and downright disgusting activity relative to lobbyists is fine and dandy with their base. It doesn't matter what the fuck republicans do to the religiously insane and members of the KKK. Denny must think there is a need to convince evil liberals that they are on the path of rightousness. It must be 2006.

raise campaign cash for the Republican party. This lies at the heart of the corruption of our political system. Lobbyists actually hold fundraisers for Congressmen who desperately need campaign cash to run those 30 second TV ads!

Check out my post regarding this issue and the Dems who will introduce their HONEST LEADERSHIP ACT tomorrow.

19. Don't know if you listened, but there's a catch...
While they are aiming at some of the issues, accepting travel and gifts mainly, they said two VERY telling things.

1. "We're putting most of the onus on the lobbying industry."
Meaning that the scumbags in congress are not the problem.

And this gem...

2. "We're going to focus on 527s which are funneling in tons of dollars to influence federal elections."

And there it is. This isn't a lobbying reform bill at all. This is a veiled attack on MoveOn and Democratic 527s.

Remember, we're the problem, not them. Indictments, criminal activities doesn't mean THEY'RE the bad guys, it means WE'RE wrong...

Uh huh.

23. The other BIG loophole is allowing lobbyists to do fundraisers for them!
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 02:49 PM by flpoljunkie
Congresscritters must raise tons of money in order to pay for those 30-second TV ads Gore talked about yesterday. Lobbyists are doing their fundraising work for them, raising money for their PACs, and this does not come without a price!
