Sorry to have to break it to you - Hillary and Biden types will NEVER
ever win...You can take this to the bank.

Unless and until we have a real opposition party, we won't be winning anything, get used to it. Trent Lott and Lindsey Graham have a better chance of winning a presidential election right now.

Opposition party and opposition leaders are people like Feingold, Boxer, Conyers, Dr. Dean, Al Gore, and of course Murtha.

All others are fooling you...This is really really simple folks:

Are we for war or against? Are we for helping the poor or letting them starve to death...etc.

The right is very clear (and simple) on their positions:

They stand for torture and say so
They stand for spying on Americans and say so
They stand for wars and say so
They stand for life and say so
They stand for lower taxes and say so
They stand for big corporate and say so
...etc......etc.

Our people are always trying to figure out how they feel? where they stand on things...etc. Nowadays, Hillary wants to stay out of the Iraq debate to see where the debate goes first...blah blah, give me a break. Let's face it, that's why a great Senator like Kerry could not win, it was things like voted for then later against...etc.

We had Scalito on for the UNIVERSE to see, we know he is one of them!!!

Why couldn't we ask him about every single item on OUR agenda? the progressive, Liberal, Democratic agenda:

Are you for torture or against it mother fucker?
Are you for universal healthcare or against it mother fucker?
Are you for preemptive wars or against them mother fucker?
Are you for lower taxes or higher taxes mother fucker?
Are you for big corporate polluting the air or against it you fuck?
Are you for choice or against it mother fucker?
Are you for spying on us or against it mother fucker?
Are you for Abu Ghraib type abuse or against it mother fucker?
Are you for public education or against it mother fucker?
Are you for unions or against them mother fucker?
Are you for free trade or against it you fuck?

Simple yes or no questions, and he can expand on his answers if he chooses to...If he ever refused to answer anything, I would ask him to get up and leave the hearing!!! Tell him he is not hired. Try to NOT answer shit next time you go to a job interview and see what happens. Will he NOT be working for us?

Our politicians are either crooks or dummies or both, get used to it AMERICA!!! The good days are over. Real opposition is always at the heart of a Democracy, we have none!!!

1. Until I read Murtha, I could have agreed with you, though there are
substantial differences between these people. BUt, adding Murtha to the list shows how you simply do not know anything about these people.

2. But at least he took a CLEAR position...Unlike all others who think
they can have it both ways...We don't have to agree or disagree with the position itself...I don't agree with any of the righties's positions obviously.

3. He took a clear position on ONE thing

and I am not even sure it is for good reasons.

For the rest, I dont see him yelling on other subjects.

I am not a big fan of Biden for other reasons, but I think he says clearly what he wants: I just disagree with him.

5. Completely agree...
The war is a HUGELY important issue -- in my opinion, the MOST important issue -- but it's not the only one. Murtha is with us on the war, but not so much in other areas. He's sort of the polar opposite of Lieberman

4. So, what's keeping that Dennis Kucinich bandwagon stalled?
"Our politicians are either crooks or dummies or both"
One wonders why anyone who hates Democrats so much would clog up a Democratic forum with such drivel.

6. Sorry, you can't predict the future.
Many at DU think they can based solely on their opinion, but politics are just not that simple.

However, putting a candidate like AL GORE forward in 2008 alleviates all the anxieties people have regarding the war. While many DU'ers show no mercy when it comes to overlooking what they feel is Democratic impotence, purposeful or passive, Al Gore would enter the race without that baggage. He also seems to be a candidate that could cross the progressive/liberal schism which really shouldn't exist but sadly it threatens to tear the Democratic Party apart.

Al Gore in 2008.

11. god, I hope so.
I think Gore could bridge the terrible rip in the Democratic Party, and I think it would be a healing process for America to put right what went so terribly wrong in 2000.

fingers crossed, as always!

15. I know he says he won't but...
...I have to wonder, especially after yesterday's speech. Perhaps all the corruption and law-breaking of this administration will cause him to feel he must step forward and do something to help this country. I do believe he genuinely wants to help and if anything could cause him to step back into active politics, I'd think Bush & Co could do it!

22. He must see that nobody else has filled the void,
and like you say answer the call to duty. We desperately need someone to step up right into the faces of this administration. People are furious and will follow such a leader.

I almost forgot what it sounds like to hear an intelligent president speak.

25. Wow - your last line really made me stop and think.
I always joke about Bush and I barely ever listen to him - it's just too difficult - but I had to stop and think for a moment about what it used to be like: when you heard the President was going to make a speech you tuned in and listened instead of rolling your eyes and making sure you had something else to do; watching the President stand in the White House or Congress made you proud to be an American, not embarrassed; after the speech there was debate and discussion on the content of what was said, not on the tell-tale coke mannerisms and how many words were mispronounced.

Oh, the good old days!

10. Not only have you misrepresented "Hillary and Biden types" as well as the
"opposition party and opposition leaders," but you also don't seem to have a very good understanding of the topics you are addressing. These are not yes/no topics. They just aren't - barely any real issues today are. Claiming that they are shows a lack of understanding of the topics at hand.

I'd love to see all real candidates - and there are no real candidates yet as no one has announced they are running - answer a very comprehensive questionnaire to compare their answers - I think that's a great tool for looking at the different candidates and deciding who best matches your own opinions. But any questionnaire that asks yes/no questions won't even be read by me and shouldn't be given the time or effort to print it.

13. Kerry DIDN'T vote for/against the way you and media claim. That was SPIN.
Every vote in congress is voting FOR one version of a bill OVER another.

ALL Senators vote FOR a bill or AGAINST it before they vote against or for the other version.

The GOP and media were playing to all the MORONS who didn't understand this.

Shame on any DUer who repeats the GOP spin.

26. Well, your link goes to an idiotic post that was SATIRE.
POOR satire, but satire none the less. And the poster yelled at me for yelling at him for making shit up. Yet it was evident from the posts that his failure to note that it was SATIRE hooked a few. Sigh.

in that post?

Nothing like some of you contributing to the furtherance of RW spin. That REALLY helps.

Let's keep ALL of America dumbed down. Give in to the RW mediaspin.

24. The problem is, try explaining that to the average swing-voter.
I did try it, everyday.

The usual response was - "Uh..yeah..so, uh, but is he for or against the war or what?"

I think the OP is advocating a CLEAR opposition message as opposed to the "nuance" that DEMs thought would carry the day.

I agree with the general spirit of that assertion.

23. She'll have to make it through the primaries first.
She may not be liberal enough for the more left leaning who vote in the primaries.

She seems to be assuming she has it in the bag. I suspect a dark horse of some sort will come riding up and snatch it from her.

The last thing you want to be at this point is the front runner. How often does that front runner go down in the primaries? Quite alot. You know why? Because everybody's gunning for them.
