Was just listening to Ed Schultz talk about Gore |
|
He played a portion of the speech from yesterday, saying that many Americans are on the side of Gore today because he hit the nail on the head. He talked about how reactionary the WH was to Gore's speech, playing a portion of an Alberto Gonzalez interview from yesterday that made what Ed considered a dishonest comparison to a known spy who was wiretapped during the Clinton admin, and the wiretapping of ordinary citizens. Ed was sort of shouting at Alberto mid-soundbite.
He then read part of the statement that was released by Gore today in defense of his speech, ending with an "Amen, brotha!"

1. I just heard that...I was cheering right along with him!! |

Gonzalez is a fucking criminal just like the rest of them. He's not going to do anything to jeapordize his "meal ticket."
The cronyism that exists in this administration is absolutely maddening.

5. Like a middle manager at Union Carbide, India, BoPaul Chemical disaster... |

Not a word until the last guy is on the last Jumbo Jet is heading out of the country. That's the way to guarantee a great job in the next Repuke Administration, cause they will all show up, for certain, next time they get elected, which no way in hell is 2008. They're doomed in 08.

2. it's about time Schultz got with the OUR program... |
|
if you're gonna play the role of a political mouth piece, and you advertise yourself as a "progressive" - then you better damn well talk like a genuine progressive or change your ID. Progressive does not now, nor ever have meant "Moderate Liberal".

3. You agree with him today |
|
You'll disagree with him tomorrow. He is who he is, a Clinton Dem.
Stand him next to Rush, then tell me how progressive he does or does not look.

6. Ed can talk like a real liberal |

sometimes. There are moments when he gets it just right (left) and sounds sincere doing it. This was one of those times. GO ED! SG

10. Don't believe that for a minute - Ed is with a "program" alright. |
|
He's hasn't been his "own" man since he's been with AAR.
He sold himself off to the highest bidder in the party, and we all know who that was. Generally speaking, he's doing the DLC cha cha cha with their talking points almost 24/7...
interestingly he's putting a little distance on this one, maybe because this issue crosses over political spectrum -(except for those who are totally committed to the fascists)...
so who knows, maybe Ed is reached a moment of epiphany or enlightenment suddenly, and that's a good thing.
Let's see how long it lasts.

8. he speaks to middle America |

If he can draw in moderate Repubs who otherwise would listen to Rush, and flip them to blue, then I don't care what label he wears.

There is room for Ed in our media universe. He's not perfect, but he is a force for good on balance.

9. I dont agree with ed on a lot |
|
However, its his show and he can say whatever he pleases. If you dont like it, just change the dial. I dont listen to the guy either, but he does appeal more to the moderate portion of our country, more so than lets say Mike Malloy(and I love mike malloy).
I dont like ed, but in a way he's kinda necessary.

12. I can't listen to Ed, BUT |
|
I think he is doing a VALUIABLE service for Liberals or Progressives. People will listen to him that can't hear Randi, Al, Thom, or Mike. "Gun Toten, Red Meat Eatin" citizens in Fly Over Country will be able to identify with him, and he at least gets the Liberal Foot in the door!
"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."--- Senator Paul Wellstone
In EVERY case, "Barriers to Trade" and "Restrictions on Corporations" were created to protect something valuable!
The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

.... what I was saying up there before I read your post.
Ed is good for Dems, that much I am sure of. The swing voter might get on his boat, when they would never get on Malloy's or even Randi's.

15. Big Ed was casting Cindy Sheehan full-time before anyone else |
|
I honestly believe he was truly inspired by her. He visited "Camp Sheehan" outside the pig farm in Crawford before any other radio host deigned to brave that miserable Texas heat, and he's had Cindy on his show a LOT.
You know, that guy frustrates me sometimes. Then there are a lot of times when he's right on target, and when he needs to be. And he is now.
