URGENT APPEAL FROM CANADA. PLEASE ACT NOW!!
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 12:10 AM by Harper_is_Bush
We are faced with a Conservative Government this Monday. Possibly even a majority.
The leader of the Conservatives - Stephen Harper - would absolutely help George Bush in any way he can.

If you are not familiar with the Conservative leader Stephen Harper, all you need to do is check out this page with a few choice quotes regarding items like Iraq and Ballistic Missile Defense:

http://www.notacolony.ca/HarperonUSA.htm

THIS IS A RELATIVELY NEW CONSERVATIVE PARTY THAT HAS FORMED AS A RESULT OF A FRIENDLY TAKEOVER BY THE EXTREME RIGHTWING POLITICAL PARTY IN CANADA OF THE MODERATE RIGHTWING PARTY.
THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND WILL ATTEMPT TO ROLL BACK MINORITY RIGHTS.

Please, read his words and think about what a mirror image of Bush in Canada will mean for us all.

PLEASE Write an impassioned letter to the editor about how crappy life under Bush is and how much Bush likes Stephen Harper and how similar you think they are to each other (rightwing social agenda...for example)
He has been down in the USA badmouthing Canada. It would resonate to say that you noticed that and cannot believe Canadians are going to elect a guy who told Americans he was embarrassed of Canada and that Canada is a "second tier" country.

PLEASE WRITE A LETTER and send it to a Canadian newspaper.

Here are some of the major ones:
Toronto Sun: editor@tor.sunpub.com
Toronto Star: lettertoed@thestar.ca
Globe and Mail: Letters@GlobeAndMail.ca <--- do for sure
Winnipeg Free Press: letters@freepress.mb.ca
Winnipeg Sun: letters@wpgsun.com
Vancouver Sun: sunletters@png.canwest.com
Regina Leader Post: letters@leaderpost.canwest.com
Ottawa citizen: letters@thecitizen.canwest.com
provletters@pacpress.southam.ca

Assorted CBC:
newstoday@cbc.ca
politics@cbc.ca
cbcnewsmorning@cbc.ca

Here is a website with links to Canadian papers if you want to find other email addys:
http://www.nealenews.com/Newspapers.htm

Send to all links individualy, not at once or they get ignored.
Try to make letters short and sweet. Under 200 words is best.

THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. I don't think it will backfire, no. As long as the letters are unique
and reasoned, they will help.

We need to utilize fear against this man. The fear is well-placed.

Canadians are a little paranoid of "anti-Americanism" and PC elements brand ANY American critisism as much.
The point that needs to be driven home is BUSH is NOT representative of Americans.

Explain how America is LIVING THROUGH A NIGHTMARE with the Bush admin....does Canada really want that?

10. That's good, but...
I think something more specific to Harper and the Canadian Conservatives would resonate more.

Your letter is all true, but we need to focus now on that fact that Stephen Harper is Bush-lite. Read his comments in the link provided in the topic post.

And pls. recommend this thread so it gets more attention. Now is a critical time. Thx!

Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 01:15 AM by Minstrel Boy
they've backfired. Harper, aided by the private media empires that are giving him a cushy ride, had already redefined himself as "not so scary." The Liberal ads came across as desperate, and the phrasing has become a running gag. Canadians, generally, don't respond well to negative campaigns.

24. I'm NDP, too
Just re-upped last week.

As a side-note (and a rant), since I joined last week, I've had no word from the NDP organization.
No letter. No call from my local candidate. In fact, I've never seen any sign of her until I researched her.

Now, if I were joining the Conservative Party, I would have been written, called or visited or all three by now.
Especially this close to an election.

Can you imagine the Bushites soiling their pants at the fact they would have a Democratic Socialist government to deal with in Ottawa? Oh I can wish can't I? I like the NDP and wished the Democrats here would adopt their approach on the issues.

28. It'll be a pyrrhic victory, but
the NDP could - could - win more seats this election than the Liberals. The NDP doesn't need to surpass them in popular vote to do it. Liberal support is broad but increasingly shallow - there are fewer bastions they can count on to rack up the seats. The NDP vote may prove more efficient this time, concentrating its gains in winnable seats. I think the NDP is in the 30-50 seat range right now, and the Liberals in the 40-60. We'll see.

Re: Bushites soiling their pants:

"Beating the Bush for votes"

So how will the next government deal with the country's biggest trading partner, particularly with the spectre of $5 billion in softwood lumber tariffs looming in the background?

NDP TALKS TOUGH

Perhaps not surprising in a platform that invokes the name of George Bush three times, the NDP plan vows the most aggressive stance of the major parties.

The New Democrats would threaten to impose export duties on gas and oil exports to the U.S., says NDP trade critic Peter Julian.

"Unless we start to build up leverage on George Bush, we will continue to be subject to the American interpretation of NAFTA, which is one where Canadians don't have equal standing," says Julian, who accuses the Liberals and Conservatives of posturing on the issue.

37. How is he lying?
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 07:57 PM by Minstrel Boy
The Liberals are corrupt. (Arrogant too, but that's another issue.) Nevermind the Gomery Commission, the Income Trust scandal and the rest. Remember Martin's little business concern, Canadian Steamship Lines? He passed it to his sons in 2003, when he began campaigning for the Liberal leadership. Until then, the company had been in a blind trust during his years in government. Martin acknowledged when seeking the top job that $137,000 in federal funds had been received by his company while he served as Finance Minister. Well, that was a slight miscalculation. The actual amount of grants and loans CSL received was $161 million. I guess the books must have dropped three zeros somewhere.

Martin is a corporate hypocrite who talks the talk but walks like Bush. (He approves Kyoto, and then doesn't implement it. Our emission standards are worse than the US.) The election was Martin's to lose, and he lost it. If it's a Harper government, the fault lies with the Liberals who squandered their mandate.

The NDP represent my vision for Canada, and hopefully after this election they will replace the Liberal Party as the federal alternative to the Conservatives. Jack Layton is my MP and I'll be proud to vote for him on Monday. I'll never hold my nose to cast a ballot.

38. Who, specifically, in the Liberal party is "corrupt"?
Name one person, and what they did that was corrupt.

Case closed.

BTW, the income trust scandal is explained by market speculation. Two media items came out the day before and of the announcement both speculating an announcement would be soon and would likely be positive. One was the Financial sectionof the Globe and Mail. Shouldn't take a brain surgeon to speculate what was about to happen. The allegation is specious politics from a dishonest bunch of 2nd raters: the NDP.

As for Martins ships, it's an international company and it's industry standard for such multi-nationals. Questioning the value of that is a bit of a self-loathing thing for a Canadian to do. What else would we expect from Stephen Harper?

39. You can't be serious.
Naming one person as requested, how about that model of propriety, Alfonso Gagliano?

Nevermind his part in the sponsorship scandal.

Stoolie: Canada pol in mob

Alfonso Gagliano has held titles in Canada that include labor minister, deputy House leader, ambassador to Denmark and minister of public works.

In New York he held a different kind of title, according to secret FBI documents obtained by the Daily News: "made" member of the Bonanno crime family.

Gagliano was identified as a longtime soldier in the Bonanno crime family by Frank Lino, a former Mafia capo-turned-informer. Lino is now cooperating with the FBI and federal prosecutors as they slowly take apart the mob family to which he once swore allegiance.

Gagliano's name surfaced as Lino described the Bonanno family's operations in Montreal, which has served as an outpost for the Brooklyn-based group for decades.

40. Just as I thought. You can't
Gagliano is not in the Liberal party. He was a minister at one time, the ONLY Liberal minister implicated. When Martin came on board Gagliano was ambassador to Denmark or some such thing.
And PAUL MARTIN FIRED HIM ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO and he's no longer in the party.

You ignored my points about income trust, understandably. The facts in that don't reflect well on the NDP.

As I said, accusing the liberals of "corruption" is a false accusation. Layton was not able to point at a single Liberal candidate as having any evidence of corruption against them in his "your turn" appearance. He's a weasel.

34. I'm worried about the space weapons
Canada said no last time and was not keene to cooperate. I know that this was formally known as some sort of shared space defense thing, but to make it work, it needed Canada's permission. Many were worried about the US trying to use 'defense' to instead weaponize space.

Its pretty scary. They can allegedly zap people with laser canon's from space. It would enable tyranny, big time.

I don't doubt that we've go aims to do this, and maybe this is where so much of our military budget goes.

This is bad news.

I wonder how many 'operatives' were involved in setting up Pual Martin for a fall? I'll bet our rogue intelligence agents helped out.
