We must curtail this action. There are no excuses. Threads throughout the DU can be found. Call as many as you can, that means Repub Sens too. Believe me. the Dems are getting plenty of calls from the lost and uninformed demanding no opposition. Don't find excuses, do it.

1. My letter to Senators Clinton/Schumer
I write to urge you to vote against the appointment of Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court.

Good enough is not sufficient for the country's highest court. That he slid through the Senate Judiciary Committee's hearings with the behind-the-scenes help of staff and members of that committee with minimal obvious flaws does not sit well with me.

How does it sit with you?

Why are some trying so hard to get this particular person to the Supreme Court?

The questions which were either not asked, or given short shrift are the ones we need answers to; such as:
How do you identify enough with a group to put it on a resume, but not recall that membership 25 years later?

When you promise to recuse yourself, you should recuse yourself.

How are we supposed to believe he will stand by your principles, when you failed to do so when questioned by the Senate?

These, and other questions about his character, combined with the “second choice” nature of his nomination (If Harriet Meirs was President Bush's “best” choice...) make me very concerned about Mr. Alito's suitabilty for the U.S. Supreme Court.

If you share these doubts, please vote against his confirmation. History will thank you.

2. Excellent, it is impotant to call both today fellow NYer...
1-888-818-6641
1-800-426-8073
1-818-355-3588
These are numbers to the main switchboard. Ask for either Senator Clinton or Schumer's office. You will speak with some very, if not overworked, people who will pass along your message to stop Alito.
Call today as they are meeting at noon to come to decisions about this.
