Gingrich used the word 'plantation' to describe Congress ...
where's the outrage?

<snip>

Setting aside the promises of Gingrich's introduction, no reasonable person could expect scholarly inquiry from a man with a history of indulging in bombastic intellectual pretension and outrageous historical analogies: Gingrich once compiled a "required reading list" for fellow members of Congress; and on the eve of his great electoral victory ten years ago, the speaker-to-be told a reporter he was leading a "slave rebellion" against the Democrats who "run the plantation." One might have expected Gingrich to grow up a bit in the years since his fall from grace. But Winning the Future suggests that he's just waiting to launch another rebellion.

1. it's different for them. they get to have a different set of rules.
gingrich is a great example. the guy was banging a girl in his office while he was decrying clinton for doing the same thing.

yet newtie gets a pass and is still treated like he's a major player.

if the right didn't have a double standard, they'd have no standards at all.

2. Why even respond to their mock outrage
Beyond calling it what it is: bullshit.

3. I loved what Chris Matthews said last night
(although I cannot stand him most of the time): Be careful what you say on a slow news day.

of course, KO pointed this out last night, ridculing the matter, with EJ Dionne of WaPo and this was ignored by all MSM today... including broadcasts on the same network, MSNBC and NBC.

8. I googled "Gingrich" and "plantation" ...
without the quotes. It was the 3rd item in the results.

I was looking for something from the time of the quote (Contract with America era)referencing the quote. Maybe it's buried somewhere- it looks like there was relatively little MSM coverage on it at the time. It goes to show how the LIBERAL MEDIA ignored Gingrich's comment in 1994, but our LIBERAL MEIDA is blasting Hillary to kingdom-come for saying the same thing in 2006.

9. Got the date on that one?
I'd like to post it on another board where there are posters 'outraged' over Sen. Clinton's comments.

11. No I don't, but ....
it was said when they were planning the repug takeover of Congress, which now gives it, to me anyways, more relevance about the hopeful Dem takeback.

12. Washington Post, 10/20/94
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/01/17/gingrich-plantation/

“I clearly fascinate them,” Gingrich said of the Democrats. “I’m much more intense, much more persistent, much more willing to take risks to get it done. Since they think it is their job to run the plantation, it shocks them that I’m actually willing to lead the slave rebellion.”

14. “I clearly fascinate them,”
To say that Newt has a big head is redundant
