Breaking: Montana Sen. Baucas to vote NO on Alito nomination!
I just called into KNSN, a Western Montana liberal talk show and the guest was the Chair of the Montana State Democratic Party.

He said that Baucas has just committed to a no vote on the Alito nomination.

Now I hope he supports a filibuster.

This is big, because Baucas often crosses the aisle to vote with the dark side.

4. Maybe he wants to outsource Alito to India
Still, much as it may hurt to admit it, Bush lite is still better than Bush.

5. Hope this is true
It's a good sign if it is. It has been tough for Montana Dems for years, due to the red state fog that fell over the state over the past several decades.

Governor Schweitzer and David Sirota have done a lot to help pull back that fog. Baucus - just follow their lead, instead of the Repubs in your state, and you will be doing the right thing.

6. It's true. The head of the state party said something to the effect
that "I can now reveal that Max Baucas will be voting no on the Alito nomination."

I can't believe he would say that on the radio unless he knew it to be true.

7. Don't count on his supporting a filibuster. Once cloture passes, they got
the votes to put Alito on the bench. The ONLY thing that will stop his confirmation is a Democratic led filibuster. Senator Reid has told Steve Clemons of the Washington Note that he does not yet know if he has the votes to filibuster.

9. That's great news! Because Reid didn't say he does and
he didn't say he doesn't.

No dem senator is on record saying they will vote for cloture.

Only Nelson from Nebraska has said he will vote on the floor for comfirmation.

So this really could happen. I sure wouldn't say it will if I were Reid. Why tip off the opposition?

11. Jeez. I thought he had already indicated he backed Alito. This is great.
It's true he's made some disappointing moves from time to time, and I had almost given up on him altogether.

Thanks a lot for the info.

12. This is quite a surprise to me.
I naturally assumed that Baucus would vote for confirmation.

This changes the dynamics of the process considerably.

15. The ACLU is sponsoring a "People's Filibuster of Alito"...
...here in BrewTown. Starts today, 9 a.m. CST, and ends Friday, 9 a.m. CST. You see, us Cheeseheads have TWO Senators on Judiciary. Sen. Kohl and President Feingold.

I mean Sen. Feingold.

B-)
