And what have the Republicans done to YOUR state?
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 04:35 PM by MissMarple
I found this interesting site through Colorado Pols. (www.coloradopols.com) Since collective insanity hit the Republican Party here in the 90's, a Republican governor since the 2000 has put the icing on the fruitcake.

http://www.macwebguru.com/blog/mdw/B888150524/C15001960...

• The non-partisan Governing Magazine graded Colorado with an overall C+ for 2005, largely based on the executive branches' performance.
• In 2000, Colorado ranked 1st out of the 50 states in economic momentum, in 2003, Colorado dropped to 40th, the greatest decline of any single state, the latest study shows slight increase but still well below the national average
• Colorado ranks 49th in personal income growth.
• Colorado is 46th worst for federal grant money received per capita in 2004, the highest percent decrease of any state.
• Over 43,000 filed bankruptcy in Colorado in 2005, shattering the 2004 record.
• Colorado has the highest foreclosure rate in the country with one foreclosure for every 681 households.
• The number of children in poverty has risen from 10% in 2000 to 15% in 2004, the latest report on this issue.
• Colorado ranks 48th in dropout rates nationwide (two from the bottom) and rose from 3.0% in 1999 to 3.8% in 2004.

"...so, what's in your wallet?"

1. I live in Illinois, and they've mostly fallen to pieces
licenses for bribes, running two candidates with the same last name as the governor who did licenses for bribes, one of which tried to make his wife go to a sex club, then Alan Keyes. So yeah, things are great here.

4. They've screwed all the states
Some areas, like the parts of Florida where FEMA money went to undamaged houses, have had windfalls. But overall, has any state done well under the bushmeister?

22. Connecticut managed to keep the Sub Base, but they took
All the Sub Maintenance work and moved it South. Huge job losses at the Sub Base and Electric Boat Shipyard. Kept the base but no work to be done.
I'm sure it's Repug revenge on a Blue State.

24. Connecticut Repug governor had a state employee--her assistant
hand deliver invitations to her fund raiser for next gov race, while at work at the State Capitol. 15 Department Heads of the current state agencies attended and wrote checks. Rell raised $800,000 at this illegal meeting. Press found out and publicized it. She had to return quite a bit of money but won't name those contributers.

6. Ernie Fletcher promised to bring ethical government to Kentucky
Of course the first thing he did was hire his relatives to fill important offices. He then gave them 100% raises.

He then started firing merit employees who were registered Democrats, then filling their jobs with cronies, bypassing the laws covering merit employees.

He also took away the Veterans preference in hiring, making sure the Chicken Hawks had a chance.

He has given tax breaks to the rich, cut funding for education, health care, child support enforcement, and environment.

Our Senate President refused to seat a Democrat who was declared the winner when her republican rival was found to be a resident of Indiana.

9. Fletcher brings corruption to a whole new level, for a governor.
We'd have to go back decades to find a comparable crook.

8. Florida. Took an overwhelmingly Democratic state and turned it into
a Republican fifedom.

Destoyed a fair equal of the Garden of Eden (the beautiful subtropical and vast green areas of the state) with power saws and bulldozers and put up cookie cutter housing developments.

Plowed under the dunes to build condos on the beach.

Let us continue voting, then twisted the counts to suit their nefarious dreams.

Replaced Paradise with concrete, steel, and greedy developers.

10. They want to privatize all the roads and highways
Under this scheme, poor people won't be able to afford to travel anywhere, and we don't have public transportation of any repute.

Republicans hate anything that has "public" as part of its name: public libraries, public utilities, public transportation, public schools, public roads, etc.

19. Louisiana, we are governed by Kathleen Blanco (DINO)
Don't worry though, thanks to her inability to do much of anything and due ot population shift, we will be getting a Republican Governor next time around. Then we can rank dead last in everything instead of coming in second and letting Mississippi beat us every time.

21. Same here in Tennessee from 1996 to 2002. Bredesen has fixed
most of it.

He's running for re-election in 2006 and the GOP hasn't got a candidate yet. Nobody wants to take him on.

23. Kansas here
The Repubs have a lot of us Kansans dying of embarrassment over the intelligent design mess. This may also have damaged the state's economic development by making us look like a bunch of Neanderthal yahoos. Now the state school board is looking into whether books by such authors as Ken Kesey and Toni Morrison can be declared "obscene" under statute and therefore unfit for use in schools.

They gerrymandered the Third Congressional District by drawing the boundary line down the main street (Massachusetts Avenue)of Lawrence, a blue stronghold. They still could not elect a Repub in the Third District, so there is some hope for the state.

They gave us the worst state attorney general in US history in Phil Kline. In fact, he is so awful, the prominent and highly respected Republican district attorney in Johnson County (Paul Morrison) has switched parties to run against him.

Wish we could blame Fred Phelps on the Repubs, but at last report he is a Democrat.
