3rd Day! Finally Gore on PBS Newshour -- One Iota At Least!
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 09:07 PM by FULL_METAL_HAT
Newshour Day 3 After President Gore Warns America...

Lehrer: The NSA surveillance story: Do you agree with what Al Gore said yesterday, that the president violated the laws of the United States?

Reid: I have the greatest respect for Al Gore, but I won't direct my remarks about Al Gore, but I will to Bob Graham. ...

Yesterday?

What planet is this guy on?

Bottom Line Up Front:

It comes down to the phrase "breaking the law". There is no situation where "breaking the law" is NOT "news" whatever the brand of journalism is practiced.

Gore said the Executive branch is BREAKING THE LAW.

Without any shade of doubt, that is an absolutely true statement.

The argument against is NOT that it is wrong, rather that IT DOES NOT MATTER if the Executive is BREAKING THE LAW.

The law as written IS being broken.

The law as interpreted has been thrown open in such a way as to invoke a constitutional "crisis" for chrisis sake!!

54 minutes in-studio talking heads
6 minutes of COMMERCIALS
1 minute of NEWS!

Remember this is PUBLIC television!

It could be the producers at the Newshour are under such pressure to bury it, only an overwhelming public outcry could give them the excuse to actually cover it. IF this is the case, they are acting like soldiers expecting "I was just following orders" will excuse their crimes.

Maybe the only way they can mention it is within an interview question?

PBS has a mandate and incorporation papers and bylaws. By NOT covering the executive's BREAKING of the Constitution, PBS may well be BREAKING their own laws!

If we don't PUSH-BACK against these disruptors, their steamroller will keep on steaming right over everyone!

Please help get their attention and get any friends who are concerned for Public Television to let the Newshour know their obvious evasive news coverage will not stand

Their response form is at http://www.pbs.org/newshour/letters.html or you can email onlinenewshour@newshour.org .

Some great letters to inspire you can be found in the threads of the two previous days below.

BTW anyone else who writes, please post it here as further incentive for the rest of us!

Day 1 http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2372477

... Hopefully our insistence will inspire a REAL piece by Friday called "Oh By the Way America, the President is TOTALLY Breaking the Law: We Thought You Should Know"

Also if anyone KNOWS any PBS or Newshour people (or fof or kevin bacon) now would be a good time to press the point with them.

They KNOW once the story gets out of the bag, it is going to catch fire. Shame them for delaying the inevitable truth!

... and finally to mitigate my shameless begging for a little Greatest Page love, here's some shameful pics to get you going!

2. My sentiments exactly! Lehrer did ask Harry Reid tonight about whether
he backed Gore's attack on the pResident regarding NSA lawbreaking, but my TV suddenly had "technical difficulties" before I heard his response. Apparently Reid said NOTHING about Gore's remarks.

Simply Stunning.

Senator Graham, that if Graham said the WH was not fully forthcoming to Congress that was good enough for Reid. What a lost opportunity to pour ICE WATER all over the * Administration. Opportunities like this don't happen frequently and it is just shameful not to be a cutting razor on the issues and accusations. Damn!

on edit: I have dial-up and have too few lucid moments as it is to wait, and wait, and wait.................for on-line broadcasts/streaming whatchamacallits.

6. you have to ask yourself....
why would he make such a statement politically, strategically or tactically. He clearly is bright enough to anticipate everything you all said above. So, ask youselves.....what purpose(s) does what he said probably have?

8. Um, was the Reid interview conducted YESTERDAY?
Wouldn't Reid have MENTIONED his big thing today, the "Honest Leadership Petition" ??

Has Newshour started passing YESTERDAY's interviews off as TODAY's??

12. No, it was today's
Reid was mainly talking about today's announcement about the reform plan. It was Jim Lehrer who screwed up and said Monday was "yesterday".

I don't know why Harry Reid passed on commenting directly about Gore's speech, but he did as much as say he agreed with it when he said he agrees with Bob Graham, who does think the law has been broken. I'm staying tuned for further developments.

10. Please tell me that wasn't Harry "Reid"
But that's a diversion.

PBS is showing its true colors.

They have a show "Frontline" which did an awful thing several years ago by attacking survivors of sexual abuse as uncredible. it was a real hack job and bothered a lot of people.

These teevee folks have only have one chance with me to when they behave in a vile and disgusting way. I'm all for writing them letters and making them squirm. I'm not optimistic tht they'll do anything other than what they've done. They are the worst of the worst, right up there with Fux.

btw, I'm jealous, jealous, jealous if that's YOUR 45 of Shame, Shame, Shame...
