CNN has sold its soul to the GOP.

12. In classic GOP fashion, too -- by lying.
In June, 2005, CNN made a big announcement that they were taking the network back to hard news, and away from opinion-oriented infotainment. They declared they were not interested in modelling themselves after FAUX NEWS.

Now they're doing just that.

6. A primer on Glenn Beck
Right wing radio host. Here are some quotes, courtesy of mediamatters.org

* On families of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: "his is horrible to say, and I wonder if I'm alone in this -- you know, it took me about a year to start hating the 9-11 victims' families? Took me about a year."

* On Hurricane Katrina survivors who remained in New Orleans: "And that's all we're hearing about, are the people in New Orleans. Those are the only ones that we're seeing on television are the scumbags -- and again, it's not all the people in New Orleans. Most of the people in New Orleans got out! It's just a small percentage of those who were left in New Orleans, or who decided to stay in New Orleans, and they're getting all the attention."

* Discussing disclosures from a caller who claimed to have tortured prisoners in U.S. custody: "I've got to tell you, I appreciate your service. ... Good for you. Good for -- I mean, good for you. Is it because you did it for the country? ... I have to tell you, when all is said and done, I'm glad people like you are on our side."

* On filmmaker Michael Moore: "Hang on, let me just tell you what I'm thinking. I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong?"

* On the father of Nick Berg, American civilian executed in Iraq: "The want to be a better person today than I was yesterday says he's a dad, he's grieving, but I don't buy that. I'm sorry, I don't buy it. I think he is grieving, but I think he's a scumbag as well. I don't like this guy at all."

14. Well, about those 9/11 families..........
no, I'm just kidding.

CNN actually HIRED this guy?

To do what? He can't be on any kind of legitimate news program.

Why? Why do you think they did this?

17. Well, I don't usually watch CNN or any other cable news myself
I refuse to pay for it and haven't had it for years. The only time I watch is when I visit my elderly mom, or when I'm traveling (hotel/motel TV).

But I have listened to this Beck idiot's radio show before (it's free and I'm a radio geek) and I can honestly say that this guy makes Sean Hannity look positively mainstream.

As to their motives, I have no idea but the almighty dollar certainly comes to mind. It's more important than ever for media conglomerations to toe the Republican corporate line, lest they lose their tax breaks and incentive. Profit is King these days.

I haven't kept up on CNN since the Ted Turner days. Now it's just a shell of a news organization swept up in the irritainment business with Time Warner AOL.

8. Bill Bennett quote of the day:
Responding to a telephone caller's question about the economic impact of abortion, Bennett referenced the book Freakonomics and its assertion that low crime is correlated to legal abortion. Apropos of nothing, Bennett then pulls this gem out of his ass:

"But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky."

He started this comment stating that he knows this to be a fact, then immediately jumped to genocide. Yeah, this is the guy I want speaking for my network.

3. Cripes, they just don't care about the numbers
imagine , they think they can alienate half the public and steal Fox's audience.

If Ted Turner were dead, he'd be spinning in his grave.
Hey, where IS Ted Turner?

7. not half the public
They're alienating about 5% of the public. Hardly anyone watches any of the three cable news channels. I find that reassuring, actually.

Freepers so dumb they don't even realize House of Bush and House of Saud are the ones in control of CNN.

16. An effective strategy to deal with them
1) Keep a notebook and pen by your side while watching any channel like CNN, MSNBC or FOX and write down the names of all of their advertisers. Also take notes on any propaganda methods you see used.

2) Google the names of the advertisers with the word 'contact' and visit their web sites. Use the web site's contact form or feedback e-mail address and let the advertisers know that you will no longer allow their products into your home because they support blatant propaganda. Courtesy copy (CC) the network in question when you send any e-mail to their sponsor so they know it's not just an idle threat.
By all means point out where the network or station involved crossed the line between legitimate 'difference of opinions' and engaged in pure lies and totally slanted reporting techniques. Be sure to frame their actions as un-American and let the sponsor know that you consider their sponsorship just as un-American. Also let them know you will be contacting your family and friends and encouraging them to avoid their products as well. Let them have it! Tell them this has gone on for far too long and it has gotten totally out of control in this country. Tell them if the only way you can fight back is to stop watching the programs and supporting their sponsors, SO BE IT! We are mad as hell and we're not going to take it any more!

3) Document your experiences and post them on line! Encourage others to duplicate your actions.

It doesn't hurt to hear the other side. But CNN hiring people like Bennett and Beck was a disgrace.
