Cons " We don't negotiate with terrorists"
When the Cons use this specious argument, don't forget to rub Iran-Contra 'Arms for Hostages' in their faces!

"The arms-for-hostages proposal divided the administration. Longtime policy adversaries Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and Secretary of State George Shultz opposed the deal, but Reagan, McFarlane and CIA director William Casey supported it. With the backing of the president, the plan progressed. By the time the sales were discovered, more than 1,500 missiles had been shipped to Iran. Three hostages had been released, only to be replaced with three more, in what Secretary of State George Shultz called "a hostage bazaar."

When the Lebanese newspaper "Al-Shiraa" printed an exposé on the clandestine activities in November 1986, Reagan went on television and vehemently denied that any such operation had occurred. He retracted the statement a week later, insisting that the sale of weapons had not been an arms-for-hostages deal. Despite the fact that Reagan defended the actions by virtue of their good intentions, his honesty was doubted. Polls showed that only 14 percent of Americans believed the president when he said he had not traded arms for hostages."

They go apopleptic when you call Reagan a terrorist sympathiser-appeaser too ;-)

2. i saw the movie "the reagans" a few months ago. according to
the writers reagan didn't know about selling weapons to iran until afterwards. i'm certainly not defending him -- it was showing his stupidity. you should see the movie. it shows just how they made him into a politician.

3. CON's don't negotiate with their fellow Americans
You know those Americans that were once called "The Loyal Opposition."

The only negotiation the CON's do is bargaining how much payola or power they will get.

7. BS! Reagan knew all about it and approved it
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 09:56 PM by RadiDem
"In the first phase, beginning in mid-1985, the President was informed of and approved in advance an Israeli shipment of 504 Israeli-owned U.S.-made TOW antitank missiles to Iran in August and September and a November shipment of Israeli-owned U.S. HAWK anti-aircraft missiles.50 The weapons were to be paid for by Iran and the Israeli stocks were to be replenished by the United States, which originally sold the weapons to Israel.

50 The President was briefed in advance on each group of weapons sold to Iran. With respect to the November 1985 HAWK shipment, the President was also told what happened to it (see Regan, Grand Jury, 2/3/88, p. 61-64; see also Poindexter Notes, 11/25/85, 000037-38). On December 5, 1985, President Reagan signed a Finding to validate it retroactively."

That movie sounds like more lying revisionism by the right wing spinmeisters who want to diefy Reagan.

9. i didn't think they tried to deify reagan. they made him look
like an idiot who didn't know what was going on. personally i don't care whether or not he knew, didn't like him. i don't know why they try to make it like he was such a great president. the only thing i can think of was that we had a good economy in the 80s.

don't you remember there was pressure on the networks not to air the movie and then showtime finally picked it up.

4. um, domestic spying sure does work, "Been Laughing" sounds so defeated!
WE'RE WINNING! WE'RE WINNING! WE'RE WINNING! WE'RE WINNING!

Can someone in DU please use "Been Laughing's" voice sampling to make recordings, that are indisputably his voice, but that have more progressive messages.

Also, can you release these tapes when they aren't timed perfectly to instill fear in Americans just as they are about to vote for regime change in elections OR have gotten the guts to prosecute the alleged elected, unelected, and selected criminals running the federal government?
