Will we see an Osama bounce for Bush?
It will be interesting to see how smart the average American is.

2. Not very smart. Osama helps the WH with their point: if you are not
pro-Bush, you are pro-Osama. I am not sure about a bounce but the Dems will be even more timid as a result.

4. You might be right
Then again he also has the SoU speech, the combo of the two might get him over 50% briefly.

7. We said that before the election but it did SEEM (and I emphasize "seem")
to have benefited Bush -- that and the rigged machines in Ohio...

They keep him alive in his cell for these occasions, don't they?

9. No
I think most people though "why the fuck is that asshole still breathing after 4 1/2 yrears" when they heard about the tape today.

Then they realized its because Bush is doing "a heck of a job"

Net minus for bush this time.

12. That's basically 90% of the "chatter" I've been hearing and I agree.
If Bush hadn't dragged us into an unneccessary war in Iraq based on lies we might have had more people, equipment and money to find this guy :grr: ... but of course I'm one of those :tinfoilhat: folks who tends to think BushCo knows exactly where he is "hiding".

10. No. I think everyone is sick and tired of this; be very afraid, but
it's not too worrisome; no heightened terra alerts.

13. Heart rates might rise slightly among the anesthetized 33% . . .
But beyond that, I can see only two reactions from the rest of America: "Oh, come ON, not this bullshit again!" or "Why isn't that motherfucker DEAD already, huh?"

They've gone to the well one time too often.

15. Possibly.
Historically, it has happened now and then. As a result, Republicans probably love it when Osama comes out with the latest round of threats. It's sorta like he does the fear-mongering first hand.

Makes you wonder if the fact Osama is still at large has something to do with the political value he has to the Repubs. Nothin' like a good enemy to bolster the fading polls of an incompetent president - hate to think they might actually care more about their popularity than about justice, but who knows.

My opinion: he killed thousands of innocent people and should be made responsible for it. I can see how Republicans would hate to see that happen, but polls or no polls, we need a president who can make it so.

If the Dems could get their message out, this would not be the case. It should be obvious to everyone by now that if the adminstration knew what it was doing, we would have stopped OBL by now. Instead, we're off in Iraq chasing car bombs around. And declaring victory every three weeks or so.

17. No. Americans are sick of seeing Osama on their TVs.
They will blame Bush this time. And if another attack does occur, Bush will be seen for what we all know he really is.

19. Not a chance, IMO. Bush is in a real pickle this time.
There is no way he knows where bin Laden is. If anyone in the government knew, it would likely leak. But suppose it didn't leak. Suppose Bush knew where bin Laden was and another attack occurred while Bush waited for an October surprise timeframe. Highly unlikely.

I don't think they know what to do about this latest tape. Right now they are keeping the official threat level down and saying they have no credible evidence that bin Laden's new "plans" have anything behind them. That's a hell of a risk on their part. I mean, they are listening for "chatter" while bin Laden and Zawahiri are sending messages right through the mass media.

I really don't know what the Bushies can do with this one. If they heighten vigilance (which it seems to me anyone in their right mind would do), then they admit the failure of the Iraq war. What they are doing now is pretending nothing is wrong and hoping for the best. That's their idea of leadership, I guess.

20. I really don't think anyone needs help seeing through Bush
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 10:18 PM by DrCorday
I hope to god his incompentence doesn't kill anymore people. Let's pray there's no attack.

Remember, though, OBL and Bush have a lot in common: besides both being religious fundamentalists who don't care how many innocent people they kill in pursuit of their cause, they also have a tendancy to not follow through on their threats. There was no pre-9/11 tape, although with this adminstration, I don't think it would have helped any in preventing it anyway. I mean, the Clinton memos warned about it anyway... too bad they couldn't have been around for nine more months, we could have saved a lot of lives.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan quickly dismissed the truce offer saying: "We do not negotiate with terrorists. We put them out of business".

Yeah, riiiight... that explains why OBL's still puttin out tapes.
