Matthews Compares Michael Moore to Osama — John Kerry Responds
Matthews Compares Michael Moore to Osama — John Kerry Responds
January 19th, 2006

Today on Hardball, Chris Matthews compared Michael Moore to Osama Bin Laden while discussing the newly released Osama bin Laden tape with Joe Biden.

Matthews: I mean he sounds like an over the top Michael Moore here, if not a Michael Moore. You think that sells…

Peter Daou of the Daou Report posted “DEMAND AN APOLOGY”:

{snip}

John Kerry responded to Matthews’ beyond the pale statement on the and Bin Laden’s reappearance with a swift upper cut…

“You’d think the only focus tonight would be on destroying Osama Bin Laden, not comparing him to an American who opposes the war whether you like him or not. You want a real debate that America needs?

Here goes: If the administration had done the job right in Tora Bora we might not be having discussions on Hardball about a new Bin Laden tape. How dare Scott McClellan tell America that this Administration puts terrorists out of business when had they put Osama Bin Laden out of business in Afghanistan when our troops wanted to, we wouldn’t have to hear this barbarian’s voice on tape. That’s what we should be talking about in America.”

1. Yes, why didn't W go after OBL?
Kerry is right on. There was no reason for our side trip into Iraq. Matthews made himself look like a weak O'Reilly.

14. Oh, Bush will put Osama out of the way once he's outlived his usefulness
Even if (or especially because) bin Laden IS an old family friend...

16. I think it was Daou's attack on Matthews using Kerry's words to make
Tweety feel the fool.

I doubt Kerry heard about Matthews since he was in Iraq.

7. When I follow the links, it doesn't take me to the source of this quote.
It's not in the Don Imus interview.

5. Tweety needs to be put on the spot...
He should be asked to list any lies he can think of by Michael Moore.

Because you know what... he won't be able to find one.

What a complete waste of airtime he's become.

8. Kerry has consistently said Bush dropped the Osama ball...
Kerry has consistently said that the Bush administration dropped the ball with capturing Osama bin Laden. A couple of weeks ago I posted that Gary Berntsen’s new book, “Jawbreaker” backs up what Kerry has been saying all along -

http://blog.thedemocraticdaily.com/?p=1547

Here’s a quote from the recent discussion on this issue Kerry had in an interview with Don Imus, on Imus in the Morning:

KERRY: We had Osama bin Laden trapped in the mountains of Tora Bora . But the president and Donald Rumsfeld decided not to use Americans, the best fighting in the world — we have SEALS on the ground there. I’ve talked to some of them.

They wanted to go up after Osama bin Laden. And the orders were never given to bring in the 82nd Airborne or the Marines, or others, surround that mountain, do anything necessary. We outsourced that job to Afghans, who went up in the hills and Osama bin Laden escaped.
