Good read.
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 03:26 PM by JohnstownDEM
This was posted on a website I frequent, I edited it, and reposted a response, which is also posted here:

PRIDE, the first deadly sin, is an excessive belief in one's own value. Vanity. Arrogance. Exactly what characterizes leftists in the media and the Beltway – the conceit that they’re smarter, wiser and morally superior to those Red-state rubes who should have listened to them in the first place, voted for John Kerry (who voted for the war before he voted against it) and watched him appease our enemies, raise our taxes, appoint more liberals to the Supreme Court, and base his actions on what the thugs at the U.N. have to say.

ENVY, the second deadly sin, is a yearning for another person’s status, abilities or situation. Liberals are jealous of the president’s visionary foreign policy and of his Social Security and tax reform proposals because his success, to them, means their failure. Pollster John Zogby has commented on a recent poll that shows Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security reform: “To the Democrats: Just saying no is not a policy and demographics are not destiny. Ignore the ‘ownership society’ at your own peril.” Ordinarily, adults manifest their envy by joining the efforts of their object of envy, the better to share the glow of success, or by striving to equal or surpass him – on the playing field, in the arts, in politics. But children hurl insults, have temper tantrums, contrive defaming lies, bristle with unconcealed resentment, and invariably sabotage themselves. Sound familiar?

GLUTTONY, the third deadly sin, is usually associated with an avaricious appetite for food, drink, sex and drugs. But the gluttonous appetite of liberals is to consume every aspect of Americans’ lives through their watchdogs in the ACLU, judges who legislate from the bench, a “Big Brother” government that imposes high taxes so they and not you can spend them, unbridled trial lawyers who become wealthy from junk law suits against deep-pocket "big business" corporations to the inevitable detriment of "the little guy" whom liberals claim they champion but who always end up holding the short end of the litigation stick, useful-to-our-enemies-idiots like Cindy Sheehan who milk their 15-minutes of fame ad nauseum, and the likes of Halliburton-stock-owning Michael Moore who pretend to speak for the same little guy while stashing their dough in offshore accounts under dummy company names to avoid paying taxes.

LUST, the fourth deadly sin, is an excessive craving for the pleasures of the body. Without elaborating upon our country’s impeached Luster-in-Chief, suffice it to say that liberals lust to control the entire body politic, from cradle to grave. But like all lustful people, they are so blinded by their yearning to ravage the president that they have effectively consumed themselves in the process. The liberals would do well to rid themselves of the bad apples in their contaminated barrel. Unfortunately, they are so self-defeating as to be incapable of following the words of Jesus, who said to Matthew (5:29-30): “And If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.”

ANGER, the fifth deadly sin, is evident in those who abandon love (or even like) and opt for fury instead. The evidence looms large: Sen. Ted Kennedy’s bulging neck veins, Bill Clinton’s bad-mouthing the president’s foreign policy when only miles away from our fighting troops, Sen. Richard Durbin’s calling the actions of American soldiers equivalent to those of Nazis, Mussolini and Pol Pot, Sen. Hillary Clinton – with a straight face – saying, “It is very hard to stop people who have never been acquainted with the truth.” But anger and hate consume the vessels that hold them, just as the wrath of liberals has consumed the last vestiges of their credibility.

GREED, the sixth deadly sin is the desire to “have it all” – including my share and your share. In their transparent passion for power, liberals no longer believe in democracy, in which the majority rules, accommodation is reached, compromises are struck, and the great issues of the day are discussed in a sane if spirited fashion. But avaricious liberals crave the president ‘s popularity, decisiveness, even his even sunny disposition. They can’t imitate him because, well, they’re not him. Simply, they covet all that he is and has, especially his power.

SLOTH, the seventh deadly sin, is essentially laziness. Oh, it’s not as if liberals avoid the arduous work of showing up each day on Capitol Hill, jetting around the country trying to raise money for their next campaign, or hesitating to memorize the DNC’s daily talking points, the better to regurgitate them for Chris Matthews or Katie Couric. But when it comes to formulating policy or spearheading initiatives, they are as the very definition of indolence. Their adherents, however, are quite active – at least their fingers are. Every day, for hour after hour, they e-mail each other everything that’s wrong with our country, contorting the good news into bad news, looking at the economy and screaming deficit, seeing the heroism of our troops and crying body count, and most egregiously, witnessing the terrorists’ savagery and saying, “We have to understand why they’re angry!”

MY RESPONSE

PRIDE, the first deadly sin, is an excessive belief in one's own value. Vanity. Arrogance. Exactly what characterizes right wingers in the media and the Beltway – the conceit that they’re smarter, wiser and morally superior to those Blue-state rubes who should have listened to them in the first place, keep voting for Rick Santorum (who is too stubborn and self absorbed to admit mistakes) and watched him appease his financiers, give tax breaks to those who don't need them, appoint more christian conservative ideologues to the Supreme Court, and base his actions on what the White House daily press brief says.

ENVY, the second deadly sin, is a yearning for another person’s status, abilities or situation. Conservatives are jealous of the Democrats garnering of national support on a multitude of issues, visionary domestic policy and of FDR's Social Security plan because his success, to them, means they didn't get to come up with a plan that saved millions of people. Republicans are beginning to ignore the ‘ownership society’ and take away personal freedoms because they cannot handle the voice of dissent. ”Ordinarily, adults manifest their envy by joining the efforts of their object of envy, the better to share the glow of success, or by striving to equal or surpass him – on the playing field, in the arts, in politics. But Republicans hurl insults, have temper tantrums, contrive defaming lies, bristle with unconcealed resentment, and invariably sabotage themselves, taint the outstanding military records of those who oppose them in whole or in part. Even if it means doing it to those in their own "brotherhood".

GLUTTONY, the third deadly sin, is usually associated with an avaricious appetite for food, drink, sex and drugs. But the gluttonous appetite of Republicans is to consume every aspect of Americans’ lives through their watchdogs in the NSA, judges who pontificate from the bench, a “Big Brother” government that imposes restrictions in personal freedoms, and who smear the very meaning of the Constitution so they and not you can claim that, "by surrendering some freedom here and there, you will be safe, for only the elephant can protect you" neverminding that while they guard the fence, the house is burning down from the inside, unbridled lobbyists who become wealthy from kickbacks and bribes from deep-pocket "big business" corporations to the inevitable detriment of "the little guy" whom republicans claim they champion but who always end up holding the short end of the litigation stick, rattle the saber but do nothing to capture our enemies idiots like Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly who milk their never ending minutes of fame ad nauseum to peddle their books, promote their hate filled speeches, and attempt to run the country from their studios and flashy graphics, and the likes of Halliburton ex-will-be-again-CEO Dick Cheney who pretend to speak for the same little guy while stashing federal dollars in the form of no bid contracts into the coifers of his own company.

LUST, the fourth deadly sin, is an excessive craving for the pleasures of the body. Without elaborating upon our country’s Commander-in-Chief's lust for power, suffice it to say that conservative lust to control the entire body politic, from cradle to grave. But like all lustful people, they are so blinded by their yearning to ravage the president's critics and opponents that they have effectively consumed themselves in the process. The conservatives would do well to rid themselves of the bad apples in their contaminated barrel. Unfortunately, they are so self-absorbed as to be convinced to force others of following the words of Jesus, despite the fact that this a nation founded on freedom from religion, who said to Matthew (5:29-30): “And If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.” Indeed, the American public will soon cast out the All Seeing right eye, in 2006, and 2008.

ANGER, the fifth deadly sin, is evident in those who abandon love (or even like) and opt for fury instead. The evidence looms large: Bill O'Reilly's bulging neck veins, Sean Hannity’s bad-mouthing the the personal lives and military records of anyone who dare disagree with the president’s foreign policy when only thousands of miles away from our fighting troops, Freshman Rep. Jean Schmidt’s calling into the patriotic actions of an American hero and telling a decorated Vietnam Veteran and Marine Colonel that he is a coward on the floor of the most distinguished legislature in the world, the U.S. House of Representatives, The relentless bashing of Sen. Hillary Clinton – who, with a straight face – said, “It is very hard to stop people who have never been acquainted with the truth.” But anger and hate consume the vessels that hold them, just as the wrath of Republicans has consumed the last vestiges of their credibility.

GREED, the sixth deadly sin is the desire to “have it all” – including my share and your share. In their transparent yearning for more power, conservatives no longer believe in democracy, in which the majority rules, accommodation is reached, compromises are struck, and the great issues of the day are discussed in a sane if spirited fashion. But avaricious republicans crave more presidential power, to the extent of a near dictatorship. Republicans, in an ever frantic grab for all the cash one can consume, have infested the sacred halls of the U.S. congress with corrupt politicans and lobbyists, such as Sen. Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who, from his pedestal on high, claims that any attempt to bring him within the bounds of the law is a partisan attack, or Rep. Randy Cunningham, who, after knowing his goose was cooked for taking bribes and evading taxes, resigned, and apologized. The only thing he's sorry about is getting caught. Not forgetting one of the greatest financial pillagers of our time, Jack Abramoff, who stole millions of dollars from native tribes, and then trounced them with racial slurs behind their backs, all while smiling to their faces asking, in his now pathetic voice, "Please sir, may I have some more"?

SLOTH, the seventh deadly sin, is essentially laziness. Oh, it’s not as if republicans avoid the arduous work of showing up each day on Capitol Hill, jetting around the country in corporate jets to use the complimentary baseball tickets their recieved in order to swing legislation one way or another, or cut out appropriations from their donors' competitors, or hesitating to memorize the White House's daily briefs so that they don't get a scolding phone call from the President for possibly wavering from the party line, the better to regurgitate them for Sean Hannity or Bill O'Reilly. But when it comes to formulating policy or spearheading initiatives, they are as the very definition of indolence. Their adherents, however, are quite active – at least their fingers are. Every day, for hour after hour, Matt Drudge posts his partisan rhetoric, contorting the good news into bad news, looking at the world's misfortune and screaming terrorists, seeing the questioning of the motive for the war and crying un-patriotic, and most egregiously, witnessing the plight of the poor and saying, “Well they probably deserve it.”

1. Lust was the same in both sections
If one wishes to, I believe there are many documented instances of Republicans doing things that many consider immoral-Gingrich dumping his hospitalized wife, the lust for unchecked power, etc.
