Just called Feinstein to tell her I expected her to publicly support
a filibuster against Alito. I was told she ISN'T against a filibuster. Then what exactly does the quote below mean??

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060116/ap_on_go_su_co/alito
"I do not see a likelihood of a filibuster," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif. "This might be a man I disagree with, but it doesn't mean he shouldn't be on the court."

She said she will not vote to confirm the appeals court judge, based on his conservative record. But she acknowledged that nothing emerged during last week's hearings to justify any organized action by Democrats to stall the nomination.

2. Go to Congress.org and read the emails to DiFi- maybe they caused her to
change her mind. You can leave a published message on http://www.Congress.org for your own congresspersons which must embarrass them because up til a few months ago you could write to anyone in Congress and have the letter published online by clicking yes at the bottom of the webform.

Everybody get involved in the DU Activist Alert on the front page to STOP ALITO!!!

Congress.org always has a lot of good petitions also.

3. It means she's parsing and hedging because, at the end of the day...
...as long as she still has her job, everything is good.

4. actually that isn't bad news, she has shifted
even if there is double talk, it appears based on what you are saying she might support a filibuster

When I called her a few days ago didn't get that message, so maybe the calls and letter writing are having an affect

She is up for election this year

5. I take it to mean that if we, the public, pushes hard enough
she will go for a filibuster.

6. What would have needed to emerge for Feinstein to stop the nomination?

Mass murder? Pedophilia?

What will it take?

If the CW is that Dems are going to Filibuster and then it doesn't happen then it's a double tragedy, no?

8. It means she plans to sheeple behind whatever position everyone else takes
I hate it when politicians refuse to stand up for what's right even if they're standing alone.

13. I wrote her and said support it or be voted out of office

Either she supports a Fillibuster or I'm voting against her re-election.

14. Maybe it's a bad media interpretation
We all know about that problem.

My understanding is there has not been a consensus to filibuster and when she made that statement she was referring to that. I have also heard they won't publicly admit that they intend to, so they draw any more heat from the conservatives. In other words, they will keep it quiet until they do it - if the do.
