"Disenfranchising" conservatives by broadcasting the truth?
The lunatic religiously insane "christians" in this country are always good for new material. NYT reports that ABC pulled a reality based show which involved a gay couple and their son winning a home and moving into a neighborhood.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/21/arts/television/21welc.html?th&emc=th

And what does a spokesbody for the Southern Baptist convention have to say about the show? If the show had been broadcast, "particularly with an ending that showed CHRISTIANS LITERALLY EMBRACING THEIR GAY NEIGHBORS it would have scuttled the baptists support for the movie Narnia." And of course, you can't have "christian" lunacy and hate without a rep from focus on the family chiming in. "It would have been huge misstep for Disney (parent of ABC) to aggressively do things that would DISENFRANCHISE the very people they wanted to see Narnia.

Don't want no "christians" showing love. But do want to focus on everybody's family but their own.

"Christian Conservatives" - the number one domestic enemy of your constitution.

1. Amen, BOSSHOG. Amen.
The founding fathers warned us about these people but have we listened? No. Now look what has happened to our country and our constitution.

2. BOSSHOG
I've come to enjoy reading all the comments on your boards and generally agree with your approach. On todays board, however, I have a correction. None of those money-grubbing liars you mentioned today even remotely resemble Christians. Jesus once told a man with physical wealth how easy it is to follow him. He said, "give everything you own to the poor and then you can follow me, because a camel can go through the eye of a needle easier than a rich man to enter the Kingdom." They're really freeped up on this "Kingdom of God" stuff too. The idiots seem to think it's a physical place that they will bring about politically, instead of a state of mind similar to what Buddha and Jesus describe.

3. You are right
They are money grubbing liars and they do not resemble christians. I just about always put christian in quotes when I am referring to them. On the other hand, they refer to themselves as christian and therefore I find them fair game for any constitution loving veteran stick poking I may choose to apply. If they in fact take the bible to heart, they will be in for quite a shock when they go knocking on the pearly gates. Their goal is for me and you to walk lockstep to the parts of the bible they find to their liking. They continue to sell the notion to their lemmings that this is a christian nation which is total lunacy to sane humans who know history. And, if my posts piss off real christians, so much the better. They should battle the neo-christians who claim their religious legacy, not me.

Personal note to dobson - focus on your own damn family.

4. these freaks
Edited on Sat Jan-21-06 12:01 PM by Jeffersons Ghost
In taking much of the Testament out of context many have turned an otherwise beautiful belief system into a death cult. Much of what they put forth isn't scriptural at all. It's just slogans from their super-rich and powerful "religious" leaders. They're too lazy to study the true teachings of Christ. Lemmings are a good analogy.

added on edit: What if they "called" themselves Jews, people of color, homosexuals or any minority? Would we feel equally comfortable bashing the liars, using those self-appointed terms?

5. Our side REALLY needs to embrace our christian lefties tighter
These neochristians have completely hijacked this religion and twisted to mean war, death, judgement, fear, and intimidation. Not only that, but they have unfettered access to the mantles of power in this country, much to our detriment.

Personally, I think that we need to stand up for the Quakers and the Mennonites (sp?) and liberal Catholics, and the leftist Protestants, and the unitarians, and every religious group on our side. These people enjoy the opposite of what their neochristian counterparts are experiencing. They have NO voice in our party politics, practically, and they are DIRECTLY under the gun of a madman President that fears the same thing happening to him as happened to the robber barons. Back then, it was Christian groups and farmers that started the populist movement that squashed the robber barons. With a religious message of hope, peace, and love, many common American citizens will take up the mantle of the left against the corporate interests of both parties. I think that those in power (in both parties) fear that because that sort of message resonates in every land, including the South and the Midwest.

There is room in the Democratic party for our populist religious brothers and sisters. Even the most dogmatic atheist will find them infinitely more open-minded than their right-wing counterparts.

I am a neopagan, in case anyone wanted to know from what religious viewpoint I come.

6. that's a good point zodiac
I will defend a person's right to believe in absolutely nothing, like the true patriot, Thomas Payne, as quickly as I will defend my right to believe in Divinity. The Deity I know and love is so benevolent and wise that it boggles the mind because it lacks human frailties so many seem to apply to it. This Deity has the power to guide each of us in a way we can personally understand and appreciate. Divinity, guides true Christians, Muslims, Jews, Pagans, etc. All will get where they want to go if the stay on their true scriptural path. All are welcome in the real internal KINGDOM! What first clued me in to the world's newest religion, Bushism, was when Poppa tyrant said, "Atheists can't be patriots." Several of the Founders were not Christian; my DU namesake is only one example.

7. We talk a lot about a "big tent" on DU
I think that too many of these references are to opening the right-side of the tent. On the left, there are many, many who are left out in the cold. I would like that side opened up, and for the populists and progressives and greenies to come in. I believe that true "centrist" Democrats are open-minded and would welcome them.

I think that the leftist-christian message of peace, love, and tolerance is a welcome addition to the secular portion of the party who advocates exactly the same goals for different reasons. The ones who do not wish peace, love, and tolerance are the odd-balls in the party, imho (ahem....Zell). Ostensibly we have too many of these odd-balls trying to close the tent off to the ones who are natural allies.

8. that's another kewl post zodiac
Just as I introduce and open up the true Kingdom for all to enter, you open up the "tent." Once I can truly embrace the concepts of "peace, love and tolerance" in personal practice then I might see a bit more of the Kingdom Christ presents as a cornerstone of His ministry.

11. and we must not judge those who are progressing slower
While these Southern Baptist Bushists down here seem intent on JUDGING anyone who is slightly different, I say to them that Jesus said, "JUDGE NOT LEAST YE BE JUDGED" several different ways in the New Testament... As to improving, I dare any of them to ask me if I'm "born again." If they do I'll reply, "are you born again, once again, TODAY?" In other words, "What have you learned about Divinity today? How have you improved and ascended on your chosen religious path this day? Another son of God named Plato taught me that approach. "Born again" is a cop-out for people that Deity made cry in church once a long time ago. It doesn't prove their heart was permanently changed and it is no guarantee that they will ever see the Kingdom.

12. I want to thank you especially
BOSSHOG,

You allowed me to point out and clear up some misconceptions the religious Reich-Wing appears to have about Christianity. Boards like this also allow me to prove that all free-thinking Democrats aren't the godless evil worshiping rabble that liars tell the sheeplys to avoid. Some days, I can just picture a freeper repuke showing a moderate Christian who is truly trying to follow Jesus a board at DU that bashes Christianity. We'll need those moderates voting for Dems at the polls next November.

Most of all, I discovered a new word: "BUSHISM" I picture myself calling them Bushist Christians long after history has shamed the tyrant. I know, forgivness is Divine but some days I'm just not as Divine as I should be... hehehe BUSHIST CHRISTIANS... A whole new belief system.
