Arizona DUers! How do you feel about Janet Napolitano?
I notice on another thread that she has a 65%approval rating in her state. I've heard her name mentioned in the past for possible VP slot in 08. Is there any support for her to run nationally? Is she interested?

2. A woman and gov. of a western state
If she is a successful governor also it seems she might be a contender. Is there anything the RW can slime her with?

3. She is very popular here, despite a Repug state legislature that
she has to veto bills from a lot.

She was a judge appointed by Clinton prior to being Governor.

In her upcoming race this year, the GOP smear machine is already prepping, talking about "flip-flops" etc re immigration policy.

In a state like Arizona, maybe in most states a governor has to be able to work with both sides of the aisle.

She is so active, it is hard to imagine her as a VP.

I like her a lot.

and one that is a hot button for lots of people.

I also note she is not married. I can hear the crap now about that.

5. It is a very tough issue. Air America Phoenix has a spot about it that I
like.

If employers would stop hiring illegals, then they'd stop coming here.

I'd add that any legal action should be directed at those who employ them illegally.

The marriage issue doesn't seem too big nowadays.

Honestly, if women had spouses who do what many wives do for husbands a lot more women with bigtime careers would probably marry.

She has to be strong, I expect if she chose to go for it would handle it well.

She is very proactive, seeking help from Washington, going to conferences with other governors.

I've felt a lot better about AZ since she's been Gov.

Now if we could get rid of SOS Brewer, think the GOP would like her to run for national office and lose???

8. I think she's headed in that direction, yep. Just purchased $11 million
of touch screen Diebold machines December 31 late in the day.

At her announcement that she is running again recently, there were protestors reacting to that.

She called them "conspiracy theorists," and "anarchists," which was quoted in the newspaper.

I wrote her and quoted a noted expert in computer network security who has testified before the Election Assistance Commission, EAC, and who is a Prof of computer science at Johns Hopkins.

He is of course is very down on the Diebold machines, and has been for years.

I suggested that the new machines she purchased are likely to help AZ become the next Florida or Ohio, and suggested that was exactly the kind of publicity she wants.

Her web site claims that Arizona is among the leading states in election electronic voting security. I think it is her testamonial to herself.

10. She just purchased the worst kind of Diebold machine - the ones
that you just touch the screen to record your vote. There is no paper copy of your ballot.

These are the ones that so many people watched flip from Kerry who they voted for to whatshisface who they didn't last time.

7. She's doing an excellent job..even the whacked-out legislature
she constantly has to do battle with here has to agree with that fact.
For the first time in a while the State is running a budget surplus; and she is constantly pushing all-day Kindergarten, a pet-project (wonderful idea!)of hers...of course the Republicans are fighting her every step of the way. Her name is being bandied about in regards to national elections because she's tremendously successful, a woman, and a Dem. Personally, I'd say she's not quite seasoned enough for that...give it a few more election cycles.

11. She's fantastic!
She was even named as part of "Six Who Could Give It A Shot" by Marie Wilson, President and Founder of the White House Project, which promotes women in politics.

The article appeared in last month's O Magazine, but I can't seem to find an online link to it. More info on the White House project site:
