If we are still in Iraq in 2008 with weekly casualties I think that will be the final nail in the coffin for republican control. There is no way America will put up with another minute of that stuff after being there for five years. And Iraq will definitely prove to be the mother of all liabilities. We may even see a reversal of the 1994 so called Conservative revolution and regain clear control.

1. The Democratic have to offer an alternative first
More of the same, or gradual withdrawal cleverly disguised as abject defeat, or "I voted for it, before I was against it" or "I supported the war when it was popular, but now that it is not, I oppose the war" just won't cut it. The Dems have to be bold and clear.

4. Sure. Americans should definetly stay in a conflict w/o the stated merit
for political reasons. Isn't that what soldiers are for?

7. By looking at teh way things are going
The Texan has put hismelf in a no-win situation. If we stay his party suffers and if we leave now and that place collapses itno totla anarchy then his party will get the blame for that too. But that may be drowned out by the screams of Americans yelling, they died for nothing. Either way the GOP loses!
