Privacy, Medicare on minds of citizens at Feingold session
U.S. senator in Kohler to listen to constituents

By Eric Litke
Sheboygan Press staff

Sheboygan County residents are worried about Big Brother.

Bush administration wire-tapping, the Patriot Act and the terrorist watch list were among the topics discussed at U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold's listening session Saturday in Kohler ...

"I want to go on record asking you to impeach the present administration," said a man introduced to the crowd as David Majerus who refused to confirm his name to a Press reporter. "The whole bunch of 'em. They've all lied; we can't prove that they lied, but we know they lied."

The request was met with laughter and applause ...

2. a local is on the terrorist watch list. complaining *as he should

Matt Kleczewski, a Sheboygan native, said he wants a thorough investigation of what kind of wire-tapping takes place.

"If I'm talking about a falafel recipe with my mother, am I going to get wire-tapped?" he said.

Jose Figueroa of Waldo was one of several attendees to express concerns over the Patriot Act, of which Feingold has been an outspoken critic.

"Eighty thousand people, including myself, are now on the terrorist watch list," said Figueroa, who noted he looks Middle Eastern and sports a black beard. "The fact that I bought a TracFone, the fact that I bought a one-way ticket, both legal activities, should not land me on that list."

3. Feingold said he was a little surprised so many talked of *IMpeachment*
"I never expected to hear that kind of reaction in Kohler, Wisconsin," Feingold said, adding that he was not going to pursue impeachment "at this point."

The crowd applauded a half-dozen times Saturday, once after Feingold was encouraged to pursue the White House in 2008.

In an interview with The Sheboygan Press before the event, Feingold said he wouldn't seriously consider running until after the 2006 elections.

"I've been a little surprised about how many people have talked to me about this," he said. "One of the reasons it comes up is I haven't completely ruled it out. I understand I could put an end to it tomorrow, if I wanted — I don't feel I should do that."
