Do you still have faith in our government?
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 01:43 AM by Check12
I am beginning to think it's going to take a revolution of the people and not an act of congress to remove these madmen.

I wish I had more faith in the government, but I think power has been consolidated too far now, and the neocons have made choices that would mean prison if the secrets came out. They will fight to the death before they let that happen. Even if congress did impeach George Bush he would not accept impeachment. He would declare martial law, arrest the members of congress and send them off to gitmo. He does not have to abide by congress according to our Attorney General. Here are just two examples of the trouble we are now in. Have we seen the prison abuse photos that a judge ordered the DOD to release over a year ago? so much for judicial branch oversight. Have we gotten that report that was promised by Pat Roberts on Phase II after Reid shut down the house two months ago? So much for the legislative branch. That leaves only one branch of government with no oversight whatsoever, claiming absolute power.

Hence we now have a dictatorship in america! immune from all attempts at restoring our democracy legally. It's up to the people now, and the soccer moms and nascar dads will have to really get hurt bad by the government before they will do anything. I really fear for our country at this point.

I never used to be this cynical, hell, I never used to be political until this madman stole the presidency in 2000

1. I lost faith in 1981. I've been cynical since I was 18. I am more afraid
of my own government than any other government on the planet.

13. I've talked to many intelligent people through the world and most
young folks are cynical and don't vote. Most folks blame both parties equally.

Most all people say that there is no Integrity, Trust or Truth in our elected leaders that are controlled by the wealthy.

15. But I've always voted. In every presidential election since I
turned 21. And every mid-term race since 2000. I always figured it gave me the right to complain about the system. Of course, when I turned 21 we were in the middle of all those anti-war demonstrations, which I regularly attended. I have been involved in politics, never ran.

2. No.
That's the short answer.

...the soccer moms and nascar dads will have to really get hurt bad by the government before they will do anything...

Not only do they have to get hurt, they have to realize who is hurting them. I am losing hope.

3. I have a lot less faith than I had 5 years ago. I have much lower
expectations of what my civil liberties are, too.

5. Uh, the lezzy-faire police state? You're kidding right?
There is right now a woman from my county serving ten years federal time for talking to somebody in a bar about how to grow pot. Conspiracy. No shit. There are several others from the central california area who were various kinds of mostly ineffective activists that are being charged with "lieing to a federal agent."

The number of lies told in the prescence of federal agents by the white house is so obscenely large that it cannot be represented by a real number. Call it a brazillian.

Our nation is totally fucked. I expect hundreds of thousands to die in the next ten years due to just fucked up planning. Count several thousand dead this last summer as the first installment. Look at what Russia is doing to Europe with natural gas as a good guide to your future. I have two preteen daughters that I don't want to give the "John Conner" education. This is the only place I can really talk about my fears.

6. The Alito battle and Nov's midterm elections = checkmate.
If we lose them both the democracy is over. Welcome to the PNAC Republican Dictatorship. Shouldn't blue states formulate plans now to hold constitutional conventions exploring secession?

12. I agree....2006 is end..
...and they WILL steal that election....while the Democrats sit back and let it happen without even putting up a fight....in fact, even if they did put up a fight, it is too late now to do anything about the voting machines.

7. I lost more faith in the american people then I did in the government.
I was not old enough to vote in the 2000 election and I didn't really follow politics before that point. Just after the start of the Iraq war was when I really started getting into politics. I read a few political books and a common theme among them was that the american people were more liberal than the politicians would lead you to believe. I then watched as a large portion of the voters in this country gave bush another term.

He's called a fascist and its been stated here that he stole 2 elections. I happen to believe that myself but whats worse one mans actions or the 300 million people who stand and watch him do it? We sit back and wait for the next big scandal to bring him down and do our job for us.

Government is just a dog and it does what dogs do, but it can be trained. The media should be the leash around that dogs neck helping us control it, but at some point we let go of the leash. If the dog gets free don't blame the dog or the chain blame the owner for letting go.

10. I haven't had faith in
our Gov since I reached the age of reason, at the time 7, the RCs moved it up to 14, in 1953.
I knew what Teddy Roosevelt's imperialistic policies had done to Mexico and the Gringo WASPs in the neighborhood thinking Joe McCarthy was wonderful. I remember seeing him on TV and he scared me.

11. I lost faith in 1980 when Reagan won
I was in Western PA at the time that liar got elected. I saw Mr. Pro Life Reagan turn his back on millions of blue collar workers when he let the steel industry shut down.

What was more disgusting was how the media kissed his ass and saw nothing wrong with his Lasseiz fairyland that Ronnie lived in.

The churches also had a hand in this, with their pro life bullshit.

Frankly, I really believe AMerica has been on a downward path since the first oil shocks in October of 1973 and I don't see any way out.

That's why the dismanteling of the constitution and Bill of Rights coupled with corporate access to the legislative process is currently a grave problem.

16. I'm concerned about our debt to China.....
...our troops being spread thin all over the world, I'm concerned about our defense and security.

I feel unsafe and vunerable that a communist country is being "so nice". I fear they'll collect this debt by taking our first born sons...now that's paranoid :silly:

Yet, more and more rich'n'greedy American Corporations are offshoring and outsourcing money and jobs.

I'm pissed off at our Dem leaders for letting this get so out of control. I wish they'd spend more time taking care of us than running for office between elections!

our entire system may need to be changed.

20. Faith in the system...no faith in this crowd...
Our system is strong enough to endure Nullification attempts, Civil War, Depression, World War, assasinations, and the resignation of a President in disgrace...it is surely strong enough to survive this pisant with a third rate mind!!!

21. I have fauth in them to put partisan politics ahead of the people
The current government (WH, SCOTUS, Congress, and the Media) is the very definition of Machiavellian. The would MUCH rather have the GOP survive than the US.

And yes, this government will only be removed via a putsch. Sadly, I don't think we are up to it, and it will fall to the UN or some other country's military to remove the BFEE from office.
