Photos prove Bush met Abramoff
WASHINGTON (AP) - Although President Bush says he doesn't recall meeting convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, the two have reportedly turned up in photos together.

Both Washingtonian and Time magazines have reported the existence of about a half-dozen photos showing the two together.

The big news in all of this is the news is reporting it! :wow:

2. they don't have them
They have a source who has shown them the photos but won't give them up for publication, at least not yet.

Frankly, the photos really don't prove anything about what sort of relationship, if any, Abramoff had with chimpy. Which is why it was really stupid of the WH to try to play coy on this. THey probably have copies of these photos as well and they are going to regret not putting them out in the first instance. Nice to see them screw themselves.

6. Maybe the source is looking to sell them instead
Tabloids would pay a lot for photos like that. Maybe they'll end up being in the Enquirer.

7. If authentic, the photos not only prove that Bush knows Abramoff
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 10:39 AM by rocknation
(which Scott McClellan is on record as denying), but that their acquaintence was more than superficial (one of the photos is said to show Bush posing with Abramoff's children). So what's up, Scottie--did Georgie lie to you about not knowing Abramoff, or did you make that up yourself?

10. the pix with kids actually don't prove much at all
Those almost certainly were taken at the WH Hanukkah party, which is attended by several hundred people. At such events, there typically is a "photo line" where attendees can get their pic taken with the pres. Its a family event, so bringing kids and including them in the pics is pretty standard.

What is more interesting is the picture taken with chimpy, Abramoff and one of the Indian chiefs, since that apparently was not a large informal event, but rather a scheduled meeting between Abramoff's client and the WH. THe claim, no doubt, will be that chimpy just stopped by the meeting for a quick "hello" and photo op, but the fact is that the president obviously cannot do that for every meeting that takes place between his staff and outsiders, so it raises the question of why make this special effort for Abramoff's clients.

4. i smell a karl rove rat
i'm sure genuine photos exist, but they got the media to sit on it while they are prefecting a photoshopped version to leak first.

when the photoshopped version is leaked, aired, and then discredited, the real photos will be harmless to shrub.

evil f*ckers.

5. Bush: "Uncanny ability to remember people's names"
Remember when Bush was great with remembering people's names? Now he forgets major contributors that visit his prop pig farm, and bring the kids y'all.

Here's an example:

While not a policy wonk, Bush is a people person who enjoys one-on-one exchanges with those who show up for campaign events. He also has an uncanny ability to remember people's names. Jane Anne Stinnett, a longtime Republican activist in Lubbock, Texas, recalled one example.

During his unsuccessful 1978 campaign for a congressional seat, Bush made frequent visits to Lubbock and on one of those visits was honored at a coffee given by Mrs. George Long. Ten years later, when his father was running for president, Bush immediately recognized his former hostess at a function attended by about 200 people and greeted her.

''The fact he could remember her, I just thought that was amazing,'' Stinnett said. ''I think he's sincerely interested in people.''

8. The source will be selling them to the Smirk family -
they can certainly outbid the Enquirer. Like all mob families, the Bushes will first offer to buy them , and if the sources refuse, the next step will be the horse head in bed.

11. the most likely person to have the photos is Abramoff himself
Hard to figure who else would have them. (Photos in the WH typically are taken by the WH photog and its unlikely that he's shopping these around.) Jack may need the money that these photos will bring...

12. bushie is a liar -- he has a very good memory for names
and this is one name he has every reason to remember -- since Jack Abramoff was a prime money bags for the GOP. <thanks George Clooney for the new Abramoff name>

However, the media seems to be able to explain away any and all of bushie's evil deeds.

13. We need to see the pictures first.

If they are posed photos at parties and receptions, then they prove nothing. Thousands and thousands of people have those, including several people I know.

Abramoff was a "Pioneer" for raising $100,000K+ for Bush. There are 661 Pioneers, so that narrows the field down quite a bit, but still doesn't prove anything more than a handshake and a "thank you."

Nonetheless, given what he was doing for the Republican party, I bet there is some connection and proof of it - we need phone records, meeting notes and correspondence. Of course, there is a possibility that Bush's handlers were smart and got this one right and kept a distance between the two to provide him with Plausible Deniability, but I bet they were too egotistical and power-mad to bother with it.

17. Bullshit! If there were pictures they'd be all over the internet. How
enticing is this action for clever internet sleuths? I may believe * was in Abramhofs hip pocket, but I want evidence before I go ranting about it.
