No Peaking or Googling: Who is your Congressional Reprsentative
I was reading that list of the 50 worst people in the US and #4 was "You" with one of the reasons given was that we probably don't know who our congressional represenative is.

So without googling it or pulling out some book you have by your computer - who is your congressional representative.

Me?

My current one is Mike Castle Republican DE-At Large
For 8 years I had Jim Greenwood Republican Pa-08 (He was very liberal though)
Before that it was Peter Kostmayer Democrat PA-08 (when I first moved to the district
Before that it was George Gekas, Republican PA-Somehwere in Central PA but I don't remember the congressional district # (it's been redistricted a few times til he lost to Tim Holden when they were re-districted into the same one)

Before that I have no idea !

Good to know who other DUers in the area are.

You never need to tell Olver how to vote. You just have to tell him to show up when it's important :-)

Seriously I hear he's thinking of retiring. Who's going to be good enough to replace him with?

I mean some of these assholes are corrupt as hell but they just step aside so a new asshole takes over their seat. That's what happen after Bud Schuster was outed on 60 minutes as a guy getting kickbacks using his Transportation Chair seat to garner favors. Who replaced him? His son. I mean hell, might as well just left Bud in the seat.

representation in the House of Representatives, plus live in a very desirable area!

There was a thread on DU a while back detailing the efforts of a group of Dem "constituents" of Gallegly to meet with him or his representatives to voice their concerns regarding the chimp's Social Security plans. They were thrown out of his Westlake Village office. And yet the idiot morons in this district keep re-electing the ass with 65% of the vote. Disgusting.

Gallegly sure makes himself scarce, too. Never holds a town hall style meeting. Rarely sends out any fliers asking for public opinion.

And the dumb ass repukes in this area never stop and ask themselves, "What the hell has Gallegly ever done for the people in his district?" Answer: Nothing.

Rep. Steph Herseth, a "Bluedog Democrat"
South Dakota only gets one rep, and Steph is what most here would consider a DINO. But she's from a very conservative state and must veer right to survive, I suppose.

She won a special election to replace Bill Janklow, who had to leave the House after being convicted of manslaughter for running a stop sign and killing a motorcyclist. And then she won in her own right in November 2004.

Supports the war, er, the troops, voted for the bankruptcy bill...

Used to be fairly conservative but she's fairly moderate these days. I think she has move her stance closer to the middle as the district has become bluer and more liberal.
The redistricting gave some of her redder zone to Pombo.

Her ex is a big time Repub supporter as I recall.

She told us the congregation is always asking for prayers for Delay and family.
She is still a Democrat but is married to a Republican family.
She is one of those that could have easily moved over to Bush's camp because of religious/moral issues.

40. My Rep in WV . . .
Is currently Republican Shelley Moore Capito, the biggest recipient of PAC money from Tom Delay and daughter of former WV Republican Governor and felon Arch Moore (something about $50,000 in cash found in his desk!).

Before her, it was Democrat Bob Wise, who left Congress in 2000 to successfully run for Governor.

Before Bob . . . well, I can't remember, because I then lived in a different Congressional district, where Democrat Nick Rahall was my Congressman, beginning in the mid 1970s and continuing to the present day.

With luck and some serious campaigning, Ms. Capito will be unemployed by the beginning of 2007!

396. Isn't it a shame
that Connie Morella wouldn't change parties - I believe if she had she would still be in Congress. I wasn't in her district but I have friends that are and they loved her but voted against her simply because of her party....she was never really one of them....oh well. When I was in VA I had Jim Moran, Leslie Byrne - who I helped get elected I'm proud to say - Tom Davis - freak that he is and then they redistricted us back to Jim Moran - Tom didn't like our element in his district

Now I live in STUPID FLORIDA - sorry Floridians - and Tom hire them to write election stealing software Feeney is my "representative" - and in this ungodly STUPID state if the member of Congress does not have an opponent they don't even put the freaking race on the ballot. Now I think I should have the "right" to write in someone eles's name - when Tom Davis was on my ballot I actually wrote my own name in - one year I had several of my friends write my name in - I probably ended up with about 10 to 15 votes for Congress - lol

I'm from Massachusetts . . . and it doesn't matter because all of our ENTIRE congressional delegation are Democrats:

Kerry
Kennedy
and all our U.S. House Representatives

The only bone I have to pick is w/ U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch of the 9th Massachusetts Congressional District. Although, a Democrat, he votes pro-life all the time, anti-abortion, anti-stem cell research, pro-Terry Schiavo crap. As a matter of fact, he stayed beyond the usual timeframe over the weekend just to vote with DeLay on Terri Schiavo. He's not my federal Representative but I sure hope he's kicked out on his ass in this next election. Indeed.

I have yet to meet anyone who likes him who does not live in South Boston

There is a serious disconnect between people from Southie who think ( overheard at St. Patrick's Day breakfast) Lynch could beat Kerry for senate!!! And the rest of his district. People from the rest of district cannot stand him

The stories of them calling his office and the reception they get are amazing

Ed Case is the other rep. Bit of a DINO, plus we still need a candidate to run against "that repuke" and her mainland-funded war chest. Abercrombie is said to be royally ticked because he'd been biding his time all these years waiting for a retirement, then this first-termer pulls the rug out from under him.

285. No, I don't think so...
As far as I know, he's lived quite the pampered life.

Did you ever read his official bio? I just checked it out and I'll paste part of it here...(http://www.house.gov/english/biography.shtml)

"...English, 48, is a Republican and lifelong resident of Erie. Prior to his election to the U.S. House of Representatives, English was chief of staff for then Pennsylvania State Senator Melissa Hart. He was also Minority Executive Director of the State Senate Finance Committee, Executive Director of the State Senate Transportation Committee and Research Director of the State Senate Labor and Industry Committee...Ranked as a key “centrist” in the House by National Journal (February 12, 2005), English is a leading voice for economic growth and fair trade in Washington."
......WTF???!!! Key "Centrist"? I know he's not Tom DeLay, but I don't think he's a centrist. Good to see he's been in government all his life.

Anyway, I've tried emailing him and I get cheesy form emails back...after like eight weeks. I emailed him about Social Security and it took him like three months. So I sent him another emailing tell him that if he didn't care that much, he needn't bother responding because he lost my vote. Then, as a test, I sent him another email but I don't think I got anything back, as of yet.

Incidentally, my grandfather told me a few weeks ago that he went to high school with English's mother and he can't believe that a nice, good girl like her raised a son like Fat Phil (as we call him in my house).

I really have trouble believing that there isn't anyone in PA 3rd that could be more assured of beating English. I hope Porter can, but I'm not holding my breath, unfortunately.

Centrist?! roflmao That is rich! Maybe your grandfather could give Phil's mother a call and ask her to make him go home and leave us alone. Funny how good people can end up with morons for children. Was he adopted maybe? lol I don't usually rag on anyone much, he just has pissed me off too many times finally.

I call him Phil *mammaries on a bull* English, to use a polite term. Or jackass.

I'm not holding out much hope for Harper after English made sure Harper's views on the drug war were made known last time. Many folks around here would agree with legal pot but Harper thinks all drugs should be decriminalized and treated as a medical problem issue, they will not vote for him. Old Phil made sure everyone in this corner knew about Harper's views. Harper was done before he started. He will win in this corner of the district again I predict. Most people are too lazy to educate themselves before voting here in the Corry area.

I hope.

In peace neighbor,

302. What part of Phil's district do you live in?
If you don't mind my asking, of course. I live in Wesleyville (tiny suburb of Erie) and Erie and it's closest suburbs usually go pure blue.

It's too hard to resist ragging on Republicans like Phil. Always walking lockstep with everything the powers that be say. Sheesh. When I was at Gannon, he was co-teaching some of the political science classes...even though I was minoring in PoliSci...I avoided those classes like the plague!!!

Did you ever have the chance to meet our dear Representative? I was at his Capitol Hill office on the day the House was debating and voting on the $87 billion for Iraq in October 2003. It was a history club trip with Gannon and my super liberal professor told Phil straight out that pouring more money into it was not going to help anything and that he hoped Phil would vote against it. Phil rambled for a while on how 9/11 changed everything. I think he must have known that there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell that I'd ever vote for him because he was reaching around people to make sure he shook everyone's hand...but not mine...but I hung around the back to avoid it!

My favorite (read: what I think is stupidest) thing about Phil is his campaing commercials where he's got a hard hat on and it doesn't even fit!!!! He really doesn't look like he fits into the factories that he tours every time he's up for re-election.

Keep hoping~

I remember those hard hat commercials! - you're right, they didn't fit, he looked ridiculous. I did give him credit for not trying to wear a flannel shirt though!

I will keep hoping, I'm still breathing! :hi:

In peace,
V

He's up against a rethug vet Van Taylor or something like that. This guy's got a lot of money behind him considering the early TV ads. Edwards is the only Dem that Delay targeted that keep his seat. He is not a vet but he is known on both sides of the aisle and to military people as a staunch ally.

89. I just posted about him to the Bob Ney person
I remember the story that 60 Minutes did on him about how he was using his Transportation Chair position to get all these kickbacks for himself and using money to build things like an unneeded airport in Tyrone. You'd think someone as corrupt has him would guarentee a democrat in the next election

Instead those idiots for the guy's son. (Idiots being anyone who kept the status quo in PA-09)

Yeah, like Bud still isn't doing his job through Bill. In fact Bill got a seat on the Transportation committee

85. Mine Is Paul E. Kanjorski (D-PA) (Monroe County)
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 09:43 PM by Kalisiin
He is in his eleventh term.

Previously, before I moved back to Pennsylvania, I was in the 10th District in Texas...and then the 25th District, after da Bugman rammed re-districting thru Texas, and I had the honor of being represented by Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) (Travis County.)

Before that, I lived in Louisville, KY, and had the horror of being "represented" by Anne Northup (R-Louisville/Jefferson County.)

And before that, I lived in a different area in Pennsylvania, and was represented by Paul McHale (D-PA) (Lehigh Valley, PA) McHale is no longer in Congress. He retired to go back to private law practice.

How's THAT?!?!

All of it from memory, no Googling.

I'm an activist, and a political junkie.

Mine is Brad Sherman (D) California. He's a liberal Democrat who sends regular newsletters and welcomes contact with his constituents. I am so grateful he is not a Freeper I could kiss him full on the lips.:toast:

Before I moved here it was James Rogan (R) California, a Freeper before we knew what Freepers really were. GAH, what a terrible experience.:bounce:

Before Rogan it was Adam Schiff (D) California, a liberal Democrat who was redistricted away from me, leaving me in the tender hands of Rogan.

Before that, I don't remember. We're talking years here.

176. lol 'safe' is an understatement!
:)

The flip side of being a safe district is the fact that up here we're the heart of Democratic machine politics and all the muck and filth machine politics drags along with it.

Senator Menendez is a a good man in part because he was able to avoid the scandals and dirt that has taken down any number of Hudson Country Democrats over the years. Scandals and dirt don't take down Republican politicians in Hudson County because Republicans don't get elected in Hudson County.

I just hope the next man or woman to hold the office is as honorable and positive as Senator Menendez was while he was serving the district.

262. I was redistricted out of Sherman's district
a few years ago and now have no representation whatsoever because the cretin occupying the House Seat where I live is Elton Gallegly, a vile nutcase. The people out here in Ventura County ought to just send a rubber stamp to DC since the smarmy corrupt bastard marches in lockstep with the rest of the Bush Crime Family.

I was never wild about Sherman, but I have confidence he wouldn't throw me out of his office, which is how Gallegly treats Dems in his feifdom.

Dave Bruderly - D is running against him for the third time in 2006...super super nice guy, says what I want to hear...but a bit boring, lacks the passion...he hasnt gotten more than 35% vote in the last two elections...

So, basically its a safe seat for Stearns...in off year elections, about 20% of the people vote...so, I doubt that many would know the answer to that question...

He's almost a fixture in SW Virginia. Last year, he defeated the former NASCAR executive the piggies barfed up to try to tap in to all that 500-HP testosterone. Year before that, the piggie candidate's supporters were handing out brochures stating where HE (da piggie) stood, as opposed where his EVIL OPPONENT (Boucher) stood -- when I told the person that those reasons were exactly WHY I supported Boucher, he asked for the brochure back.

Hey, Rick's not flashy, but he's THERE.

As for "Nut country" :-D ... it's a rather big district and I don't know where you are but according to the 2004 vote map quite a bit of this are is actually rather purple and from what I'm hearing I think we're turning bluer by the moment. Most of the folks we've met and overheard talking since we moved up this way are not at all happy with BushCo and rather like Hillary (but she's come up here quite a bit and folks seem to feel that she's at least trying to help them with issues that matter to them.)

The last Dem to represent Arkansas' 3rd was James Trimble, who served for 22 years before being defeated by J.P.Hammerschmidt in 1966. Wal-Mart was still mom-and-pop back then, as was Tyson's, I think (if Tyson's was even around back then). But there were a lot of rich Republicans who had been moving into Bella Vista, Mountain Home, Arkansas valley, etc., and a lot of erstwhile Dems in the hills were ticked off because of the civil rights legislation being passed by the national party.

and he seems to be awesome! at least reading his issues he seems great- staunch supporter of Choice, and got this too: "Humane Society Recognizes Lantos as a National Leader in Protecting Animal Welfare"

<snip>

An American by choice, Tom Lantos was born in Budapest, Hungary, on February 1, 1928. He was 16 years old when Nazi Germany occupied his native country. As a teenager, he was a member of the anti-Nazi underground and later of the anti-Communist student movement. He is the only holocaust survivor ever to serve in the U.S. Congress. Tom was awarded an academic scholarship to study in the United States, and he arrived here in 1947. He received a B.A. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Washington in Seattle and later earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

392. I've got a real dumbass for my district
A lunatic, Bush ass kisser - Thadeus McCotter. He won the district by some 58% I believe. Bush carried the district by around 55% I think. The Dems barely put up a fight though. They put up some sacrificial lamb and he was poorly funded.

Before that we had the moderate Dem Lynne Rivers. Her district was eliminated through redistricting (repukes have control of the state houses, though a Dem is now governor) and there was a primary where Dingell beat her...

For being a repuke though I do have to say that he takes more time and effort to connect with this liberal than Bill Nelson does. All I get are freaking form letters from Nelson, Bilirakis has actually called my home 3 times to speak. Probably helps though that I have a Greek surname and live a heavily Greek town.

Both are usually eked out as RINOs. I'd love some Dems there, but these ladies aren't as bad as they could be.

For the House, Maine's first district is Rep. Tom Allen (D). Second district (there are only two! :D ) is Rep. Mike Michaud (D).

So ha! I did that without looking!

Had Alcee Hastings for years and years, but then moved a mile east. Rep. Hastings always responded to my letters, Rep. Wasserman Shultz has replied to exactly one in the last six months since I moved - and I've probably sent two dozen letters.

Senator Nelson replies to most of my letters. Mel Martinez has not replied to any, not one.

Edit: To change "Debra" to "Debbie" - messed up the first name.
