The Booming Bush Economy Comes Home to Roost (Ford in Ohio)
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 07:29 AM by theHandpuppet
Clermont County (Ohio) was pivotal in both the election of King George in 2004 and Jean Schmidt in the D2 elections.

So I wonder how many among Clermont County's citizenry are rejoicing this morning after news of the Ford Layoffs, and what will surely be a devastating blow to that county's economy?

Ford cutbacks strike home
'It Tears My Heart Out' - Sharonville plant workers may be affected

By Mike Boyer and Alexander Coolidge
Enquirer staff writers

Ford Motor Co. dealt a potential $100 million blow to the regional economy Monday, announcing that it will close its transmissions plant in Batavia Township and eliminate 1,745 local jobs as part of a companywide cost-cutting.

The 1.8 million-square-foot Batavia plant, which opened in 1980, will close in summer 2008. Hourly workers, represented by the United Auto Workers, will be entitled to supplemental unemployment benefits paying up to 90 percent of their previous pay for a time specified under their labor contract.

Ford plans to eliminate 30,000 jobs in all.... MORE

Oh well, at least gays can't get married! And I've heard the army has raised its recruitment age to 40!

2. Yes,
And supposedly the Republican GA Governor had the opportunity to go to Michigan to lobby to keep this plant open. He did not go, he believed it would not be closed! I'll look for the link, in was in this weekends newspaper.

6. When I was campaigning for the state house back in 1994...
The first question I always was asked when ever I entered a Union Hall was "Are you gonna take my guns..."

It took some time to figure out why, what with plant closings and right to work provisions were creeping onward from the south like some kind of Kudzu, this issue was so import that it would top all other issues...

The reason this question is asked over and over again is to simply see if you agree are different from other democrats...

Remember that you can't just walk into a Union Hall....

You must be invited to speak or mingle...

They assume you are on their side when it comes to labor related positions...

It's really the only thing some of the membership care about...

As to why they vote the way they do....

I never understood why a person would vote for a party that is obsessed with eliminating workers rights and safety protection...

But then again, just as not all preachers are conservative, not all Union members are liberal....

8. Shouldn't the question(s) be...
"Are you gonna take away my vote?"

"Are you gonna take away my job?"

"Are you gonna take my child into war?"

"Are you gonna take away my right to privacy?"

"Are you gonna take my benefits, provide health care, assure me that I can declare bankruptcy when I can no longer pay my mortgage because I lost my job, tell my kid she can still get a Pell grant to go to college, etc, etc....

Of course, those are questions to be posed to republicans and collectively don't amount to much to people so obsessed with guns, gays and God.

Well good luck, folks, and don't forget to vote!
