Chimpy is too complimentary a nickname.

3. Yes, the headline is bad; the body of the story seems correct
a controversial hypothesis that chimpanzees are more closely related to humans than to other species of great apes with which they're currently classified.
...
Chimps are lumped with gorillas and orangutans in the same family, Pongidae, whereas humans are in the family Hominidae.

That makes sense.

10. I read a thread on this in LBN. Not sure I understand it all but
it's interesting that the learning apes - us and chimps - also seem to be the ones with the slowest evolving genome. I hope I'm getting that right. :silly: The size of the sample seemed to concern the researchers.

4. For the record, I've always felt that both "Chimpy" "Monkey" or other
variations of those terms comparing Bush to those animals was degrading to chimpanzees, monkeys and all related primates.

5. Chimps eat monkeys, and kill one another. Apes, vegetarians & peaceful
Chimps are scary cleaver. They can kill a man they're several times stronger. Try swinging from tree branches for even ten minutes.
Apes are much less violent, require bushels of foilage daily, just to survive, and are enviable in their life style and character. Apes are aware that they have a survival challange, chimps are much less threatened in their environment, giving them time to cause problems for other species.
Fear Chimps, love Apes.
Smirking Chimp would be my choice.

9. I keep telling people it's unfair to compare the tyrant to chimps
While he is is obviously only a trained circus act to entertain us as someone more powerful pulls his strings it's unfair to call him a chimp or ape...

It's unfair to chimps and apes.
