Trent Lott can't buy lunch for less than $20
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 04:04 PM by quaoar
I take my two kids to McDonald's a lot and we all eat for less than $12. Maybe Lott is upset because his Happy Meal comes with a toy instead of a check.

"We’re going to cut meals to $20 a meal. Where are they going to eat? McDonald’s?"
Sen. Trent Lott, sneering at some reform proposals capping the price of lobbyist-paid lunches

1. quaoar, if you were to eat as much as Trent Lott does
You'd never get by on $20, even at McDonald's.

8. How much does chicken & a salad cost?
You can even get a nice roast-beef plate or pasta dish for less than $20.00.

As another poster suggested, a pizza or a whole bucket of fried chicken for under $20.000.

I rarely order a meal that costs more than $20.00. Neither does the average working-Joe.

They must be ordering lots of top-shelf alcohol to get the costs up so high...

Hate to have to defend Trent Lott, but that is exactly what he was saying, I saw it on CSpan. Pay for the meal yourself, 20 bucks for a meal isn't going to buy much anyway.

29. House wine?
Well, Lott could go to Macaroni Grill and get a stout glass of the house chianti for just a few dollars. Great value and a good wine, too.

But you don't really expect Lott to drink wine that comes in gallon jugs or a screw-top lid, do you? Hell, he probably tips the wine steward more than $20.

16. $20 buys me 3 or four days worth of groceries.
Loaf of white bread= $2.00

Pound of ground beef= $4.50

One whole chicken= $7.00

1/2 gallon of milk = $2.50

1 dozen eggs = $1.50

That leaves change for a can of tuna and a can of soup...

Lott's statement really should be exploited to show how out-of-touch the Repubs are.

27. Trent, have you tried the Senate Restaurant?
many moons ago when I had brief employment on Capitol Hill, I ate lunch in a very nice cafeteria under the Capitol ... got an excellent hot meal ...

too common for ya?
not enough glamor as hobnobbing with the K St. crowd at Prime Rib or Mr. K's?
can't eat the corporate-standard chain food the average joe and jill eat?

Senate Restaurant sample menu
http://www.rollcall.com/dining/senate_menu.html

Senate Bean soup for $1.95
Rotisserie Chicken for $4.50
Variety of vegetables at .95
Drink Water

A nutritious meal ... better than McDonalds, and well under $20 ...

or you could stroll over to the Rayburn Cafeteria ...

http://www.rollcall.com/dining/house_menu.html

Chicken Noodle $2.10
Fried Flounder $3.99
veggies at .95

I wish I could eat so well at those prices.

Normal working people who dont get kick-backs eat this stuff all the time.

As far as I'm concerned, ALL congress critters should have to live off beans & franks and powdered milk.
