The media is NOT our friend. If we give away our game plan then the repukes will hightail it to the networks screaming filibuster.

I'm thinking it's gonna happen but none of will know until it's actually happening.

Reid has a strategy. I would never ever want to be stuck playing a game of chess with that man - he knows the moves!

1. LynneSin, I hope you are right
The media is acting like it is a done deal.

And of course you're right, it could just be more of their "enabling" ways . . .

I'm getting down to my last straw, waiting for the Democrats to grow a pair.

because the Republicans are. They want it to be true. And if it's not, they can scream "betrayal" and "partisan" and many other words that some of them can't spell. It's all a PR game.

6. It's all a PR game.
Yep. You got that.

Oh, and when they screw up, it isn't because their policies stink. It's just because they haven't done a good enough job "marketing" them.

24. The Mainstream Media is not our friend....
I agree with you Lynnesin....the media won't be telling us and Reid if he is smart won't be telling them either...Meanwhile I agree with you, we won't know until its happening and I certainly hope that Reid pulls a chess move out on the Repukes.....

5. Ok, right there is the first mistake "The Media is acting...."
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 05:00 PM by LynneSin
As I posted elsewhere, I wouldn't even turn into the media to find out what the weather forecast is.

Just keep writing your senators, that's all we can do. But trusting the media is about as smart as trusting the fox to make sure no one steals the chickens!

7. I agree with that...
It will "evolve" into a filibuster, starting from the simple debates from each side.

14. I'm seen you say this before and you may be right
But, can you tell me how they handled judical filibusters over the past 5 years? If I remember correctly they always announced them ahead of time. Can you name one past nominee where they didn't announce the filibuster ahead of time?

This is why I think it has been important to contact our Senators over the past week (and still is important). I think it would be wrong to be complacent just because we think/hope some secret plan is in place. Not saying you are being complacent.

19. they didn't just threaten in the past
They actually filibustered. They were successful too. And I don't remember then some secret plan that was sprung at the last moment. Why would they change from what was successful in the past?

16. The Repubs should not know they are in a filibuster until....
they are stuck in the middle of it. They will be more disorganized. They are very concerned about the elections in November...

17. I agree with you especially on one point
I'm not sure why people expect that we will know all that the Dems are doing, and think that if they are not dancing around in front of us talking loudly and using fierce words that they are not fighting.

Talk is cheap, as some say, and it's easy enough to talk tough. I will be watching for the doing. I don't need to FEEL like something is happening just because someone is presenting me with a dog and pony show, as long as something actually happens.

Did that come out right?

I applaud your optimism, but merely being optimistic on what we have now to go on will not make it happen.

22. i think you may be right, but
the issue will be what happens when the repubs threaten the nuke option. Do the dems fold or force the repubs to play that card? If they play it, I have no doubt that they'll succeed, in which case Alito is confirmed and the filibuster option is off the table in the future. Not sure if that's such a good idea or not. My fear is that the public, which doesn't "get" the filibuster (and frankly, neither did I when it was being used to block civil rights legislation), will see the Democrats as the obstructionists and the repubs as the "up or down vote" party.
