They never talk about "check and balance" |
|
Do you ever notice that?
All this posturing from the Right about spreading "freedom and Democracy" around the world and then complete silence about the importance of having a healthy check and balance system of government.
The rightwing is doing their best to install one party rule and the SCOTUS is the last piece to the puzzle. Hell, since the SCOTUS appointed Bush in 2000, and considering the lack of Congressional oversight during these corrupt times, I think they already have it.
So with all this blabbering about "freedom" and "democracy", from the right, I think we need to really focus on the condition that allows for them, and that would be the real intent of our country's foundering fathers: a healthy check and balance system. We have only to look back at the Third Reich as a horrendous example of "democracy and freedom" with no checks or balances.

1. They don't want checks and balances. |
|
Their desire is to control everything - fuck the constitution. Karl Rove gave an interview years ago when Bush was Gov. of Texas - he claimed his mission in life was to see a Republican take-over of the government, a one-party system where Republicans stayed in power forever and ultimately changed the course of American history.

3. Absolutely right. To this administration, checks and balances |
|
means lack of control, which is something that just won't fly with people who are drunk on power. The only way to stay in power is to keep your opponent from having any authority to rein in the excesses of those who are in power. Thus, we have Republicans in all three branches of the government enabling the complete takeover of our government by one party. They don't plan on going down easy. They will try to retain this power at all costs.

A president who breaks the law is a threat to the very structure of our government. Our Founding Fathers were adamant that they had established a government of laws and not men. Indeed, they recognized that the structure of government they had enshrined in our Constitution - our system of checks and balances - was designed with a central purpose of ensuring that it would govern through the rule of law. As John Adams said: "The executive shall never exercise the legislative and judicial powers, or either of them, to the end that it may be a government of laws and not of men." ~Snip~ In the words of James Madison, "the accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." http://www.algore04.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=325&Itemid=78We need more like him getting that message out....the sheeple will never wake up to what's going on if Dems don't start taking a more vocal stance.
