It's not too late to encourage senators to filibuster
I just sent this letter to Senator Patty Murray, one of my senators. Feel free to use any of it, but just make sure to send those letters (or make the phone calls).

Dear Senator Murray:

I am heartened that you have come out against the confirmation of Judge Alito to the Supreme Court. The more I learn of him, the more I realize that it would be disastrous to have him on the bench, especially at this time when the Bush administration is amassing power to the executive at an alarming pace and scale. I have no doubt that Alito, if confirmed, would accelerate and exacerbate this. His record speaks clearly to that.

In addition, the recent dissent of Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Scalia and Thomas with regard to the Oregon medically-assisted suicide law must give us all serious pause at this pivotal moment. Can any of us doubt that a Justice Alito would join this trio to make it a solid foursome in many cases that would diminish civil, personal and women's rights?

Your task is clear, and you must step up to it, for your Washington State constituents such as myself, and for all the other ordinary citizens in this great country who will suffer in countless ways if the Senate Democrats back down on this monumentally important decision. You must try to mount a filibuster with your colleagues.

If you try and fail, I will mourn with you. If you fail to try, we are lost.

1. Yes!
Everyone should stay after them, don't give up. This isn't just about Alito. It's also about Us. All of the Senators need to know that we are here and we are not quitters. So I say keep it up until it's over, then rest up a bit to get ready for the next Push.

2. Why do we need to ENCOURAGE them to do their jobs??
The future of this country is at stake. Freakin' cowards.
