John Edwards email:
Dear My Sweetie in Virginia (not really :),

George W. Bush is the worst president in our lifetime. In 2005, we saw just how deep his failure of leadership runs with the failed response to Hurricane Katrina, the Republican corruption scandals, illegal spying on Americans, and his record of mismanaging our courageous armed forces in Iraq. This year, America will be presented with a unique opportunity to restore the moral leadership that has disappeared under George W. Bush and the right-wing Republicans in Congress.

The foundation of America's moral leadership must be the truth, and George W. Bush has proven time and time again that he cannot and will not be honest with us. And as long as the Republicans are in charge, Congress will do nothing to hold him accountable. The only way we will get truth and accountability from this White House is to elect a Democratic Senate in 2006 who can call hearings and conduct investigations that will get to the truth and enforce accountability. But we can't win the Senate back in 2006 without committed activists like you. So I'm asking you today to join the fight with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to elect a Democratic Senate.

When Republican lobbyists are snickering in emails about what they have gotten away with, you know Republican abuse of power in Washington is out of control, and it is our moral obligation to show that America can do better. It is our moral obligation because when the well-connected get government's ear, someone is losing out. And we know who the losers are, the same people who always lose when Republicans are in control. It's going to take real leadership to do something about the 37 million Americans living in poverty and the 45.8 million Americans with no health care coverage.

In 2005, I told you about how I was traveling across America, building the infrastructure of our party by supporting tomorrow's leaders. I asked you to help me support Democrats running for their state legislatures who share our commitment to building one America we can be proud of. And many of you helped with that campaign and continue to help.

This year, as I continue to help elect Democrats to state legislatures all over the country, I'm also working with the DSCC to elect a Democratic United States Senate. Only a Democratic Senate can provide the moral leadership that we are so desperately lacking, put the brakes on the Bush agenda, and shine a bright investigative light on Republican abuses. A shift of a few Senate seats to the Democratic Party would make all the difference.

It is hugely important that you become involved as soon as possible with the DSCC and its campaign to win back the Senate. The DSCC is committed to electing a Democratic Senate in 2006. The organization is recruiting Democratic activists across the country to ensure we have the resources we need to win. Will you be part of that campaign?

Just imagine what a Democratic Senate committed to our values could accomplish:

A real fight against poverty starting with an increase in the minimum wage.
Real health care reform that makes affordable health care available to every American.
Holding George W. Bush accountable for the missteps and mismanagement of the situation in Iraq.
A federal judiciary with judges committed to mainstream values instead of ideological extremism.
The DSCC has a special role in every Senate election across the country. It is the national party organization that coordinates directly with each and every Democratic Senate campaign. It makes sure that all our candidates have the money and resources they need to win.

I am committed to building a strong DSCC, because it could be the difference that puts us over the top in key states like Florida, where Representative Katherine Harris, the notorious Florida Secretary of State who gave George Bush the presidency in 2000 is now running for Senate. The DSCC needs your help to defeat far right Republican Senator Rick Santorum, who is running for reelection in Pennsylvania. We will all need to work together to ensure the reelection of Democratic stalwarts like Sen. Robert C. Byrd in West Virginia.

Committed activists like you will be crucial to the DSCC's success. That's why I need you to join the DSCC today.

Electing a Democratic Senate is the most important thing we can do in 2006 to bring accountability back to Washington. I've been in the Senate, and I know what a crucial role the Senate can play in restoring moral leadership that America needs.

If we're going to put our country back on track, we clearly need to win back the Senate in 2006. The DSCC's mission is critical to that victory, and I hope you will join me in doing everything in our power to help.

In the coming weeks and months, the DSCC will continue to ask you to help us elect a Democratic Senate and to put a stop to right wing control and abuses. Now, more then ever, I urge you to get involved and be there with us when our party needs you. The stakes are too high for any of us to do less.

Yours for a Democratic Senate in 2006,

John
