Here's the software Rummy bought to spy on us
I saw a demo on this unstructured text data mining product recently. Its now available for commercial use. Its from a small start-up company that got a HUGE contract from the Pentagon. They proudly claim that it works with many foreign languages, INCLUDING ARABIC.

http://www.datawarehouse.com/article/?articleid=5347

Version 4.0.3 of IxReveal comes with pre-populated concept banks in more than a dozen different topics - such as government-specific topics including countries or leaders and industry-specific topics like telecommunications - which makes it faster and easier for first-time users to benefit from IxReveal. IxReveal's concept banks allow the data analysis process to be as specific or as general as dictated by the needs of the user. For example, users can both determine what patterns exist in their unstructured data and determine if those same patterns reside in the pre-populated concept bank. Doing so accelerates the time to ascertaining data patterns and themes that are government-critical in the public sector, such as in homeland security, and business-critical in private sector customer-centric functions, such as sales, marketing and call centers.

Company web site.

Its able to scan millions of documents of ALL types (including emails, PDFs, web sites, blogs, bulletin boards, etc.) for "concepts" chosen for analysis. Predefined words (including all synonyms and derivatives) in millions of documents at a time are analyzed and reported on. You can input a Google search and it will visit every site returned and analyze each page for relevancy. The metadata gets stored in its database for future cross-reference.

I didn't ask, but presumably it can be fed data from a network sniffer and read every IP packet sent across the internet...

1. Did this software help us catch Abramoff, Gannon, Libby,
the foreign spies in D.C., the corruption in Iraq, KBR's improprieties, the missing billions in Iraq, the culture of corruption and other items or is it just supposed to scrutinize aunt Millies recipe for baked beans???

3. Interesting post
The Boeing Clarkson ended up on the Board of this Company after getting canned! It looks like the Indian couple are the brains behind the outfit. And they are hiring!

4. Just tap into the major routers in Virginia
and a few other critical network points and you've got all the traffic in and out of the U.S.

But, of course, you would use the very same algorithms (with different data banks, of course, but these are pretty straightfoward to build) for corporate spying. Where exactly is the line drawn? Isn't any major corporation who's going to think WTF?

Do you think Rummy thinks we anti-war liberals ARE the competition?

8. gawd only knows what that wretched excuse of a human being thinks
But it's just too easy to tap into any type of telecommunications. Child's play for our spooks, frankly. And the temptation to find out more seems to grow as you gain more access - seems to operate on the same principle as the absolute power corrupts absolutely thing.

11. I've been wondering about corps as well... You got senators making bank in
the market ... Now you have access to all of the internet stuff. Easy to steal, easy to buy, easy to sell, easy to blackmail. TOO MUCH POWER over a populace.

9. A direct challenge. I love it!
You're legally expressing your intention that only the intended recipients can view your message. Violation of your expressed wish means the govt knowingly and intentionally violated you. I guess the Supreme Court will ultimately decide if that's still against the Law.

Why does every thread wind up belonging in the Alito forum?

10. I never adjust my machines firewall
My firewall is getting so much action it's half way up my start menu... My intrussion prevention aspect was reset again by someone (i live alone and my dog is very short) to "log only" instead of "block and log." I'm here to report the tyrants oh so spooky spyware works about as well as he does, which is not at all.

I forwarded my email back to ALL the names on the list, maybe 500 or so and I need to start doing international tarot readings again... they likely think that's in code too but it takes years to learn card meanings.

Is there anything I've missed doing? I'm open to suggestions

12. Interesting and brilliant
This thing will sell like friggin' hotcakes - that is if it's for "sale". It's downright maddening the level of monitoring that is possible in today's climate. Angry Girl is right about this - and it's a damn shame. Who will stand up for freedom of information? Damn, I wish Al Gore didn't get cheated.

13. the board of directors at bushco
will stand up if people can cost them too much money... PBS just aired a promo that they're running the Nuremberg Trials with lots of original Third Reich and hearing footage... There's people doing something and if more people did little things bushco gets a bad quarterly report.

14. I would love to agree - however I am more skeptical
Bad quarterly report from who? We, as Americans, have more collective capitol than any ONE person, we still seem defeated to me. Maybe I misunderstood your post?

15. Cost the machine money
Kick um where it hurts... call and write local sponsors of reich-wing leaning media, especially new advertisers... email weird stuff to thousands... take part in any boycott you hear about... Did you say "we still seem defeated?" I say to you, "We have yet begun to fight" but toss up your personal white flag whenever you want, the tyrant will haul you away the same time he gets the rest of us at DU, whether you fight or hide. BTW, they won't worry about taking in our freeper spys right along with us, bushy will throw them under the train just he did with the Abramoff gang. He's an equal opportunity torturer I bet.

16. I totally agree with the message but
where exactly do we "kick em where it hurts" - Where is that? I have and will continue to maintain my wacky boycotts (I will never go into a Wal-mart ever again ((unless radically changed)) for example) but I don't see any pay-off yet. Didn't say I would stop, just would like to see more of us I guess....

18. kick um in the bushco pocket book
Call local sponsors on clear channel media, especially new ones, to make a direct hit at busco that will cost thousands over a year... Act like a moderate concerned about a super expensive war and run-a-way inflation... work in the fact that you're also concerned that none of the news on that media offers another perspective and it reminds you of what your mom used to say was wrong with Russia.
