I live in a fairly red state and this is a growing trend among middle age suburban-ites. These poor, mostly Russian, women would come in looking shell shocked most of the time. The "husband" would almost always speak for them. He would sit with them during their eye exam, pick out or recommend a specific pair of glasses for them as if they couldn't make a decision for themselves and then he would whip out the checkbook acting as if it was under lock and key all the rest of the time. The one woman that I remember coming back on a regular basis finally left her shit-head spouse and is now working as a dental hygienist. She is a changed woman!

These "men" are the dregs of American society. They definitely couldn't get a real woman if their life depended on it. I suspect their wives either end up in a shelter for abused women or die an early death.

IMHO, the whole mail-order bride thing is disgusting, and so is being attracted to a race or culture of women because they supposedly display a certain set of desired characteristics. The freeper thread was a hoot, though -- pitting confused conservative women who don't know they're feminists against patriarchal, unapologetic American women haters, against a theologian who thinks oral sex is sodomy, against a few well-reasoning posters who, while conservative (or more libertarian, it seems), actually "get" the idea that partnerships should be between two equal people, and that the expectations of roles and stereotypes don't really pan out. Truly fascinating -- and, I must say, not much less confused than some of the "war of the sexes" threads here, at DU -- though I'm glad that here, at least, there is no stereotype of the "traditional woman" (:scared:), for whom most of the men are looking. As a thread pertaining to sex and marriage, I figured it would generate a lot of heat (and gas).

First of all, notice how they're making it sound like the ONLY way to hook up with a foreign babe is via mail order. Obviously, none of these oafs are going to be jetting over to Europe and offering an attractive woman in a bar in London, Paris or Munich a drink -- or getting to know an interesting overseas colleage at school or work or in their community. Before marrying my wife (who is from China, but I met right here in CT), I dated a few women that were born in Russia and several that were born in the Philippines. If these guys are expecting them to be subservient women who stay home, barefoot & pregnant in the kitchen, they'll be in for a rude awakening!!! I've actually found a lot of foreign born women, while sometimes outwardly quiet at first, to be very self confident and strong willed when you get to know them.
