Now I know who to support in 2008 |
|
For a long time I was really on the fence about 2008. Of course there's still loads of time and anything can happen from here to there and yes I am more concerned for 2006 right now as we all are. Before I was torn between three people: Kerry, Feingold and Warner. But in recent events I'm now staying with Kerry. I'm a big fan of Kerry's and he is the only person trying to stand up for us with Alito and actually fighting. This is like with BCCI. Nobody wanted him to do it but he was successful in closing that awful bank down. Not even Feingold fought for us (he did do a good job in the hearings though). So as of now for me personally it's Kerry in 2008. :)

Comes out for a filibuster after 6 Dem Senators say they won't - thus ensuring we don't have the numbers to.
Kerry's 2008 slogan: John Kerry, a day late and a dollar short.
This is Kerry trying to score some points at the expense of his colleagues. Can't you tell when you're being manipulated?

2. So he should come out when it looks like it will happen and take credit? |
|
Would that have been better?
The idea is to try to persuade people to go along with a fillibuster. And to do that, someone had to lead. He's leading. He's getting flak for it too. I can understand it coming from the right, but from our own side!? How ... special.

Maybe there is no winning on this but this last minute stuff is for those who drink the kool aid. It won't happen and is just politics.

14. That's really not true |
|
He's been pushing for this filibuster before today. It was only when it was clear some of the party leaders wouldn't support it that he went to the activists for help.

3. I am a Kerry guy, but this deal seems a little weak right now. |

But I am behind him all the way.

5. And what is someone else doing? |
|
Everyone else seems to have given up on a filibuster but Kerry. Even when he was on his other business in the mid east he was doing phone calls and trying to get people to support his effort. He's had his petition going on for about a week or so as well.

7. Nobody is doing anything. It's like the Iraq war. |
|
I just wish Kerry wasn't doing this over the fucking phone.

8. He's doing it to score points |
|
Not because he has any chance of making it happen. He waited until it was dead, then he comes out for it. What kind of leadership is that again? He's looking for a soap box. He's looking for self-righteous indignation.
I for one am not that impressed.
This is all about 2008. Not about Alito or any of us.

but this is getting pathetic. At best he's angling to be the next Adlai Stevenson.

10. I appreciate his effort and wish he had more support. |
|
I believe John Kerry's desire to stop Alito is sincere.
This is not to say I will be supporting him in 08 (much too early), but he doesn't deserve to be slammed for the effort.
There are plenty of other democratic senators who deserve more flack than Kerry.

I hope he can pull this off. If he does than it will be a miracle!
