I was wondering how many of you out there have family members, either in their immediate family or the family at large, with whom you or your family have had political fall outs. In my own family there is my father and one of his brothers who are far left and my other two rich uncles are far right. In recent years an issue, which I won't go into here, has caused the already present political rift between the uncles to grow to the point where it threatens to tear the family apart. Things have settled down for now but the topic is still the 800 lb gorilla in the room that no one want's to acknowledge at any get together.
So the question is, who else here have strained or broken relations with family members due to political differences and how has it affected you and the family at large?

You'll get much insight here in coping with many situations (work, home, community) where your ideals are challenged by idiots.
You can also learn a lot by researching websites that deal with cognitive dissonance, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease.
Yeah, really. That's how bad the rightwing has infiltrated the Corporate Media talking points.

that I refused to argue, and I made that loudly clear at any family gatherings. Those things were religion, politics, and gas mileage. Announcing that at the outset as well as any time the conversation tended in that direction served to avoid murders it the family. No matter how right you are, no matter how utterly useless that person or his opinions may be to civilization, no matter how desperately he NEEDS the crap beat out of him, you just don't need to spend the rest of your life messed up from your unselfish sacrifice.
