Are you going to participate in the '06 elections?
Besides voting, what are your plans for the coming year? Are you going to run for office, campaign for candidates, or just post messages?

2. Probably
We'll see if the Democrats run someone against my entrenched popular Republican Congressman and the local political scene. We just had a Governor's race in VA this past year and I worked a bit on that. We got a Dem govenor but the local races did not go well for us. I'm not too enthusiastic as I think Tom Davis (R-VA) has so much money he'll buy the election this year.

of a dem governor, but, from everything I can read on him, I can't find one position he takes that is democratic rather than republican/neocon. Has Virginia been had?
Oh, and I will be calling, visiting, driving and some walking but will not be running for any office.

5. Nope.
There might be a lot of hype about Virginia going blue, but the fact of the matter is it isn't the type of blue that most folks on DU would like. Kaine and Warner are well to the right on most issues. Kaine was actually considered to be a "liberal". If you want a good idea of political standing, just imagine Warner and Kaine being roughly similar to Joe Lieberman but perhaps on some issues even further to the right. Then you have a good picture of what you can expect.

In other words, they aren't real Democrats. They are DLC folks.

9. That's a sweeping generalization
Can you back it up with examples? Or are you just one of these "I hate centralist Democrat people"?

I'm also convening my town's caucus next month and am going to probably become the Vice-Chair of our Democratic Party in town.

6. What '06 elections?
You mean the Diebold elections?

Or do you mean your idea of one if the concept of elections survives the actions and challenges of an emerging, titular Emperor at large?

I don't understand how a Constitutional crises does not get high priority when it is in your face and in your midst.

If you want to dream about future elections, then comfort yourself with that idea. There is too much information out there and in here to allow for such a luxury right now, methinks.

If we let today's evil be sufficiant unto today, we would focus us all on the most pressing issues only because they have an impact like none we have ever seen or imagined in our lifetimes.

14. Neither is any good without the other
Ok, let's say the voting machines get fixed. Every single Dem activist worked on it night and day. What have you got? Accurate voting machines and nothing else.

In case you haven't noticed, the Dem party is in shambles across the country. We need people to be building their local parties, doing the GOTV stuff and helping our candidates or else the accurate voting machines won't be very helpful in the end.

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/training.php

In 2004 Democracy For America, in partnership with Latinos For America and 21st Century Democrats, embarked on an ambitious goal to train thousands of grassroots activists for the upcoming elections. Together these groups trained over 4000 people across the country. Formally launched in May of 2005, the DFA Training Academy builds on this experience and offers the grassroots a movement-oriented sustaining training program. This isn't just about the next election, or what we can do for our country every two to four years. This is about building a movement to take our country back.

Democracy for America's unofficial motto has always been "You have the power." The DFA Training Academy grew out of the need to harness that grassroots power in an organized, skilled, and sustained manner. With your help, we identify key skills and strategies you can use to take back your city, your state, your country. Then, we find experts around the country and bring them to you for a weekend.

or Camp Wellstone

http://www.wellstone.org/camp/index.aspx

Wellstone Action is a national training center for people interested in progressive change. Our goal is to help activists win on issues and elect progressive candidates.

Through Camp Wellstone and our other training programs, we have trained over 8,500 activists in 26 states in the nuts and bolts of political advocacy and grassroots organizing. Given the tremendous success of our training programs to date, we have expanded our efforts to include special trainings in Getting-Out-the-Vote (GOTV), youth activism, voter education and mobilization, and other areas.

Read more below about our current training programs, and look for future additions to our training activities in 2005!

It's fun, empowering, and you can make a change! Don't get depressed, get active!

12. Will my vote count?
Will it be counted correctly?

I've seen nothing to assure me that YES is the answer to either of these questions, so no, I will not be participating in the '06 elections. And I believe my answer to the followup questions can be extrapolated from that.
