80% approval as first lady?? BFD.
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 04:36 AM by SoCalDem
We did not elect her as first lady, she came with the "deal"..A first lady is little more than the wife/bedmate of the guy we "hire" to be our CEO..The fact that she puts on a good show as the "lady of the house" is irrelevant and should not even be an issue to poll about. So if the public hates her, he'll divorce her and we can choose a "new wife"?

perhaps an audition style, a nationwide hunt a la American idol??

All a first lady is responsible for is to make a few speeches, and be a mouthpiece for a few charitable issues..

If I recall, when Hillary stepped up and tried to advocate for just about anything, she was roundly criticized, and told to stay out of the limelight..and now pickles says a few snarky things at a microphone and smiles that joker-y smile, and she's the most popular ever??

Just more smoke and mirrors, folks.. She;s no more 'popular' than she ever was..and even if she were, who the F*** cares..or should care?? We're at the brink of god-knows-what with her maniac-husband in charge, and what she thinks or how popular she is, should be the least of our concerns

1. I agree with you, but look at how they treated Kerry's wife!
People STILL talk about Theresa as NOT being worthy of being a First Lady! Of course, Theresa has the same problem Hillary has. She's a strong willed woman with strong opinions and isn't afraid to say them!

2. Exacty.. a woman who "has a life of her own" is always mistreated, but
a "porch-sweeping, cookie-baking, 5-steps-behind-walking" woman is glorified..:puke:

7. Yep! This is why I don't think Hillary can ever be elected!
There are times I disagree with her, but overall, I think she is the first woman I can remember who really does have the ability to be a US President! Every time I hear someone talk about why the US has never had a female President, I think...Who might have been able to do the job? Hillary is the first one in my mind who fits the bill.

However, there are STILL so many people in the US who are so totally anti-feminism and believe a woman could NEVER be a leader, I think it's a very long time before the US will really even consider any woman for the top job.

Too bad too. The men sure haven't done a very good job, have they?

13. you presume too much... ;-)
I doubt that woman's ever swept a porch herself (hell, I'd be surprised if she's ever held a broom when not beating Georgie with it for being drunk again); and the only baking she's ever done is making brownies... the "special" kind.

She's probably had hired help for all of her married life, but they pretend to be just down-home folk:(

3. Doesn't make much sense, but, with ample proof that
The creepy clan did not win-by election-either time and even bush's ascendancy to the governorship of Texas coming under suspicion, why is not the entire population in angry revolt makes no sense, either.

Bush-"The peasents are revolting!"
Cheny-"You can say that again!"

6. I can't stand her
She is useless. A big blow-up doll at his side. She has opinions? Or were they given to her and she just repeated them? Does this woman do anything? Ick. Her daughters, too. Why don't we ever see the twins? Don't they ever visit?

Hillary had the balls to speak up and let people know she had a brain. That's why I liked her so much as first lady.

8. Might as well stick a store dummy next to the President.
That's about what we've got now.

9. What a worthless poll.
Good God, who cares? I think she hates public life anyway & would just as soon go back to Texas & obscurity.

10. That just means she's over 45 and hasn't put a stripper pole
on one of the WH balconies, two shows a night, matinees on Sunday. It also means she hasn't been caught trying to make a difference for any of the non millionaires within our borders, and that she's confined most of her efforts to improve the lot of suffering humankind overseas, like a good little woman.

14. This is a perfect example of why Americans would not elect a woman
as President. There are too damned many chauvinist pigs in this country to allow a woman to have a life of her own. It is not just men that are that way, I know a lot of women that are just as bad.
They have the 1950 persona that the woman should be at home in those ugly smocks backing cookies and pot roast. When seen in public they should have on those ugly suits.

For this poll, Who is she popular with? and how did they get those numbers? Besides if her popularity is that high what does that mean? She is not the president and has no say among the monsters she is a house wife and they treat her as such.
You notice that this is really the first they have brought her in to the spot light, It is all they have.

16. Do you have a link?
I haven't seen any polls or similar on Laura Bush, though I know Good Housekeeping magazine always does a Most Admired Woman poll. However, I noticed once that the questions are posed in such a way as to limit the choices.

Frankly, Laura Bush is still very much a cipher to me, even though I have more opportunities than the average person to hear her at press events. Unlike, say, Nancy Reagan or Betty Ford, Laura Bush has a personality that's pretty much under the public radar. I think people just project what they want on her.

Wolfie took great delight in announcing immediately after the "poll results"...that ONLY 16% would vote for Hillary..

I remember thinking..hmmm I don;t think Georgie would exchange laura for Hillary :) and I doubt that ANYONE would vote for laura as pres.. but he cannot help himself..to Wolfie everyone is automatically pitted against each other
